Lets see if I understand this. The SS system is going broke. The benefits of people that have paid into the system for 50 years, and are in their 60s and looking for the promised payments, are in jeopardy. Others that have paid nearly as long are told they might have to wait longer to collect. Yet we can put people on SS at a very young age that have never paid into the program, and provide benefits for virtually their entire lives. Am I missing anything?

Does anyone know the percentage of SS benefits that are paid for disabilities vs retiree benefits?

Compare this with SS Disability where 99.999% of applicants with real disabilities are declined and have to fight with expensive lawyers at their sides for 5+ years before SS relents and grants some of them benefits with no retrograde.

Not to mention that the applicant may have their own doctor who will testify under oath that their patient is truly disabled, but then the applicant has to be checked by SS's own team of docs who have already decided even before examining the applicant that (s)he is not disabled.

I agree completely. I've known several people that became disabled and couldn't get on disability. This is BS if they are putting ADHD kids on disability.

I also agree that it feeds the lawyers, drug companies and gives teachers an out if they have a child they are unable to teach.

I have autism and I'm not receiving SSI. What the hell. I could have been raking in the cash all this time? Why didn't anyone tell me? Personally, I don't believe it.
