US deploys 'game-changer' weapon to Afghanistan - Telegraph

The Pentagon has rolled out prototypes of its first-ever programmable "smart" grenade launcher, a shoulder-fired weapon that uses microchipped ammunition to target and kill the enemy, even when the enemy is hidden behind walls or other cover..... the gun fires 25mm air-bursting shells up to 2,300 feet [1/2 mile], well past the range of most rifles used by today's soldiers, and programs them to explode at a precise distance, allowing troops to neutralise insurgents hiding behind walls, rocks or trenches or inside buildings.

I'm amazed at anyone who goes up against the US military. They must be delusional or very dedicated in their beliefs. While other nations are still 20 years back in battlefield technology and tactics the US can pinpoint and wipe people out tens or thousands of miles away without any hint of a warning. China is increasingly the only real military threat to the US as they are shifting from a teaming hordes military to one that is more technologically advanced.

Which is why we are very good at winning wars. Unfortunately, we seem to have some difficulty in winning the peace and, for all our conventional superiority, we are still very vulnerable to low level guerilla insurgency.

The ability to beat any target to a pulp is great for national security but doesn't necessarily make us popular or right.

Um... bunker busters, drones, stealth fighter jets, airstrikes, tanks with active defense, laser guided minitions, etc... against guys with backpacks and an AK haven't been a 'game changer' enough?! Another trinket thingamagik for the war to end all wars. At what expense to us the taxpayers?

At this point I think our president needs a microchip implant not the grenades. Obviously, his natural mental power with regards to the wars he hoisted on us is not sufficient.

It seems that one of the few technologies the US is not falling behind in is machines that kill.

We do it so you don't have to.

Show a little gratitude.

We do it too, with weapons purchased from the US, and I feel shame, not gratitude.

I was expecting a swelling of patriotic pride on this grand news of our troops' enhanced killing prowess, but instead I just feel pathetic as an American. Our economy and infrastructure are in deep do do, but we still muster up cash somehow to bring new toys to far away lands... as long as they have a trigger. Pathetic.

Army to test XM25 'smart' grenade launcher rifle (w/ Video)
I've heard estimates 25,000 to 35,000 a pop. Well worth it, I only wish they had them sooner to get them the hell out of there. This mission has been a cluster from day one.

One headline "Just in time for christmas". Indeed!

We can only hope that the North Koreans, Iranians, and Islamic terrorists of various flavors may someday develop a reluctance to patronize THEIR arms dealers. Then perhaps the US can turn to other pursuits that do not involve defending your right to feel shame.
