The repeal passed on a mostly party line basis of 250-175. Dems voted in favor 235-15, Republicans against 15-175. 5 Democrats, 4 Republicans did not vote. The repeal was a stand alone bill, it now advances to the Senate.

I agree cw30000. We are all aware that gays have been serving for years so it wasn't that they were being denied a job. But the rest of the country....Oh well. I guess it's because unemployment stimulates the economy. I guess everyone needs to go on unemployment for a couple years and our debt and deficit will disappear.
You have to wonder if they really are that stupid of if they just think we are.

Maybe if the GOP didn't obstruct things all year we wouldn't have to be cramming all this in at the end of the year. God knows the Republicans aren't going to move on and repeal this nonsense...

Where it will die in Harry Ried's graveyard along with everything else. And of course Obama is not going to push for it. It would be hard for him to say "oh I am for this" while fighting the same thing in court. You won't hear a peep from him- I would bet a steak dinner at Ruth Chris on that!

I can't wait for that steak. Here's what Obama's been saying about the repeal of US Code Title 10, Chapter 37 Section 654:
Here's what he said yesterday:
"I applaud the House for passing, with bipartisan support, the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010. Moving forward with the repeal is the right thing to do and will ensure that Americans who are willing to risk their lives for their country are treated fairly and equally."
Here's some other things he's said recently on the topic:
"Repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” will help make our armed forces even stronger and more inclusive by allowing gay and lesbian soldiers to serve honestly and with integrity. A vote on repeal could come tonight. Call your senators now and urge repeal."
-DEC 8
"Extremely disappointed that a minority of senators was willing to block important legislation largely because they oppose the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” But although today’s vote was disappointing, it must not be the end of our efforts."
-DEC 9
"'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' weakens our national security, diminishes our military readiness, and violates the fundamental American principles of fairness, integrity, and equality. Our efforts are not over—your senators need to hear from you."
-DEC 9
"Make sure Washington knows that a great majority of Americans agrees that the time has come to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Add your name as a strong supporter of ending this discriminatory policy."
-DEC 10

maybe the republicans don't want to repeal it? Why should any congressman vote for something that he/she doesn't want to vote for? We voted them in for a reason, and the main reason was to oppose terrible liberal policies.

Good we can move on from this and maybe just maybe these people will prove their worth to a less than grateful nation. But I wonder. All those liberals who insist on calling our troops thugs and murderers will they now call our openly gay troops names as well or will they make a distinction?
