College is no longer free for foreign students in these countries. Was it a good idea to allow these students to attend college for free?

I don't even understand why the taxpayers in those countries had to subsidize the college education of international students in the first place ... That is a dumb policy!

I'd expect they'd have to when tuition in USA is nuts, Brit's tuition is going up, it's only going to make worldwide college bound flock there. Unless an industry was so needful to provide graduates... I'd say that's the real problem in global economic downturn. What's the point of going to college if there's no job behind it when you're done? PhD walmart greeters?

I can only speculate their rationality would be similar to the argument made by the left here.. Which is that if you offer free college education, you would entice people to go there, to get the education, and then they would settle in locally where they got their education since they create roots in the new city. They also claim this would bring down costs and increase standard of living because with more people providing services the wages would be lower, but magically, the standard of living would increase because everyone is "college educated"..

I agree.. dumb policy...

The theory of attracting international students, especially from third world countries is that, if they have a great experience and get a great education then, when eventually they reach positions of influence in their own countries they will be more predisposed to doing business with the country that treated them well.

In the grand scheme of things, spending a few thousand to educate a future influencer is cheaper than taking out full page adverts in a well known newspaper or on a reputable TV channel.

They are ending free college to some foreign students.

So much for sensationalism!
