There is no best state for retirees to live in. Retirees are unwanted pariahs who end up moving to Florida or Arizona to escape the cold up north.

So, you must not have plans to ever become a pariah (retiree)? Please share your secret to becoming an ageless non-pariah. I'm sure you'll have thousands leaning intently on your every word.

Not just hillbillies but cannibal hillbillies, high taxes and toxic waste dumps, oh my!

I highly recommend your grandparents do NOT look to live in Tennessee, this place is horrible, so try Florida where most retirees go to die. There sure isn't anything to see here.

Now you will have to excuse me, I'm fixin to go fetch some water from down the holler and fix the door on the outhouse, were havin high steppin company from one of dem good places an I aim to show off our tricity and new appliances that use fire.

Who knows, maybe we can take a snort or two off dat ole still and get all sigogglin... (snaps suspenders) yup, I reckon its gonna be a real shindig ifin it don't snow.

True, they don't want to put up with people they don't agree with, that goes both ways. Look when you are that old, you just kind of let it all hang out.

No kidding, they just don't care anymore since they are in their 80's now. They feel they earned the right to be surrounded by loved ones, and I guess the trips to Florida just didn't do it for them.

After speaking with them, the fact that they feel that there is no changing anyone's mind at 70+ yrs old, and so why go somewhere that you might have conflict over what counts as basic personal freedoms. They may be highly religious, but they are progressive and quite worldly and do not believe that everyone should be forced to believe what they believe.

See, the younger generations are perfectly nice and understanding of things like the right to abortions, gay marriage, and not having prayer in school. But many of the older southern people are just confused as to what this country is about.

Freedom is for everyone, not just those that agree with you.

My grandparents have no interest in moving to states that support to suppress people's rights.

My grandparents live in a lovely retirement community where they have have their laundry done, their meals prepared, housekeeping, bus trips to museums and visits from University Professors to keep their mind sharps. They have holiday parties, and cocktail hour, they have all kinds of events and most of all, they have family living close by.

When old people move away from family, they run the risk of being abused as they become more senile, dementia sets in, and some get Alzheimers. Over all I think the safest and BEST place for all retirees is near their loved ones. Quality of life is highly dependent on things like that.

Oh and I hate when the snowbirds descend on Scottsdale only to drive like lunatics every winter. NICE.
so those of us who have come from other states wear our religion on our sleeves, we are narrow minded and never have parties, go to plays, visit museums or do our own laundry. Talk about a narrow minded, unimformed view, I think you need to spend some time in a few states.

People of Illinois, California, New York, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Ohio, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Nevada — you probably already know the answer.

Full article
the-10-worst-states-for-retirees: Personal Finance News from Yahoo! Finance

I couldn't help but notice that:

- Reids Nevada
- Davis/Schwarzenegger(RINO), Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein, +13 Socialist Dems California
- Kerry, Franks and the 10 Dems in 10 districts Massachusetts
- John Reed and Patrick Kennedy's dem strangled Rhode Island
- Dodd and Leibermans Connecticut
- Feingold and Kagens Wisconsin
- New York and Illinois liberal Democrat entrenchment (too long to list) and quote "govern-mentally dysfunctional" states

are all on the list and that the people there (here) are over taxed, under served, and the local governments are inept? They are all fiscally broken states.

If progressives are so much smarter than the rest of us backwoods conservatives, why are their states in the worst financial condition?
Weather played a big part in this ranking. The Democrats are good but they cannot control the weather!

No foreclosures going on in Florida.

How is the property tax doing down there? Florida knew what they were doing when they eliminated state tax and increased property taxes. Most of the retirees there are income poor and property rich.

Doesn't Ifin have 2 F's? Iffin'? I personally do enjoy the northern south (whatever you call it). Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and I definitely love the midwest from Minnesota to Michigan. It's all nice, good people. now if only you could fix your weather issues.

My grandparents cannot even stand Arizona, the only reason they would move is if we moved.
