Smoking is such a disgusting habit by itself but when I see people throwing their butts out of their vehicles or just on the ground it really annoys me.Their is no excuse or defense for it,the enviroment is not an ashtray.Their should be a minimum $100 fine to enforce to help stop people from doing it,it could be a good revenue generator and the money could go towards helping prevent young people from smoking.Smokers should have no rights and public smoking should be banned as well and the same fine for smoking in public. If they want to continue their bad habit smokers should be responsible and use an ashtray and keep it to yourself. Yes, good people can have bad habits like smoking and most people know one but it is time for smokers to be responsible for their poison. It can only help, and i'm tired of seeing people litter with their cancer butts.

No rights huh? I'm continually amazed at how profoundly undemocratic the average Joe and Jane America can be. I think that their is a little of the Despot in each and every one of us. Good thing we have a Constitution to enforce what doesn't seem to come natural to so many people.

Most places probably already have at least a $100 fine in place for littering. People are just rarely caught throwing their cigarettes out the car window.

It hate it when the car in front of me hits my car with their cigarette on the highway. My mother had one fly into the back seat of her convertible before.

I can't do anything to help with your apparent prejudice against smokers and judgmental, self-righteous heart, but I do agree that smokers tossing their butts around like the earth is a giant trash bin is a valid complaint.

Anybody who was ever in the Army knows the solution to not having an ash tray available: Field strip it. For those who aren't aware, "field stripping" means flicking all the fire and tobacco out of, stepping on the glowing ember, then wadding up the paper and filter and putting it in your pocket for later disposal. It's real simple.

If you're in California, I wouldn't suggest tossing that lit butt out the car window. See those signs along the highway about throwing burning items from the car? They're deadly serious about that and the fines can be quite high. Worse, you might start a brush fire and end up criminally liable for the damage done.

Could it be the main reason people flip cigs out the car window is that the car does not have a ash tray? We own a 1998 and a 2002 and neither car has a ash tray. Myself, I fill a empty plastic bottle with water for my butts because it is a safety issue on preventing a fire.

While smokers I'm sure get tired of hearing about their habit. I can't really disagree,. with the op. it is gross to see butts along every curb. Here in FL we often have fire warnings but it doesn't stop smokers from tossing them out the window.

Here is what I don't understand I frequently smell a profuse amount of cologne on smokers , as though it will make them smell better... for the record you smell like an ashtray with cologne... save your money on the cologne it doesn't work. Only smokers believe they control the smell... those of us that don't smoke can smell it immediately.

Just about any store like Walmart or Family Dollar sells ashtrays which drop into the cupholder for a couple of bucks. They're actually better than the ashtrays which used to come in cars because they're easy to dump and can even be put into the dishwasher and cleaned.

For the record, most of us aren't all that concerned about how we smell, any more so than other people.

I'm sorry if my smell offends your sensitivites, but so do a lot of things and we tolerate them, don't we? Why is our intolerance reserved just for smokers?

I must agree. Smoking is the most disgusting, filthy, and vile habit in the world. Its ONE of the FEW areas I happen to agree with the People's Republik of Kalifornia. It was one of the first states, to ban smoking in restaurants, businesses, and other public areas. Most cities, especially in the SF Bay Area, has bans against smoking in public, and many cities have and/or are adopting laws, which make it illegal to smoke in apartment complexes and condo complexes. Many of the apartment complexes in my area, already have a voluntary no smoking clause.

My mother lives in Reno and one reason I cannot stand going to see her is all the smoking, which goes on in the casino's/restaurants. I also love going to Europe and European's smoke like no tomorrow. Totally ruins the experience, in alot of places. Thank god London recently banned smoking in pubs.
