The teachings are about living frugally, to help the poor, to only live with what you need and give your unneeded wealth away. To open your doors to the needy and that greed is evil. Even how Jesus is depicted in looking, long hair, beard, sandals, pretty much exactly like hippies of the 60's.
It just seems to make sense that if you are a true follower of the bible, you would be a hardcore liberal, not a conservative.

It's about as mystifying as why the states that receive the most federal aide and get taxed the least always rail on about "entitlement programs" .

Sure they did, and so did you. How much blood did you sacrifice? Is arlington cemetery sorted out by political affiliation or has someone taken Coulters misinformation machine to it's logical extreme? I'm a vet who put her money where her mouth was. It's not dishonest to refuse to take a deduction. No IRS agent would say so, but made up values in the minds of a few insist otherwise.

It's more than a little ironic that those claiming to be republican christians have yet to quote the bible even once at this late point in the thread. They claim to be victims, they're poor put upon by their fellow citizens, act as if it's their job to dictate to the world how it should be, but can't manage to open a book as reference. Curious indeed.

Doublethink and doublespeak: they want everybody to be under white Protestant rule but they also want smaller government and tighter fiscal policies that will dry out the socialism that actually works e.g., libraries, road construction, post office, etc.

That must explain why my parents, my grandparents, and my aunts and uncles were or are not Republicans. They are not Christians.

Where are you statistics? There are no stats that point to the fact that most Republican voter are Christian.

Most of my family are NOT Christian and Republican.

Right! Just check out the commercials on Right Wing/christian programs: schemes to make thousands of dollars in your spare time, how to increase brain power, cremes that make one look 20 years younger, etc.

The Ed Schultz Show

You mean like Ed Schultz's website promoting buying gold, and hypnosis for weight loss

ALL radio programs and websites promote crap like this to pay their bills. Its not a left/right issue, its an economic issue.

I'm not protestant but if you take a look see at how protestantism has evolved philosophically over the century there's no such thing as WASP stereotype anymore. You won't find hard line puritanical people around. You find one version or another of televangelists making money off the Bible twisting words around to suit their air conditioned dog houses. You also find self identified christians (who aren't practicing anything but self invented values) who created these characters in the first place. The audience created them in the pews to represent them. The bible is irrelevant when being entertained or being told what you want to hear is a higher priority. More like a cult calling itself christian, but that vocal minority burdens all with a bad name.

Would be nice if atheists could discern the difference between a sincere Christian (no matter the denomination) and the christian taliban/ nasty biddies. Here's a litmus test for you Jeff Foxworthy style--- if it's beyond any possibility in their mind they could be wrong about anything, they might be the taliban.

The OP poses a good question. Christianity teaches love and giving to those less fortunate. These are in direct conflict with Christian Republicans who are all about me me me. The Southern Baptist culture teaches hate, hyporcrisy and greed. Now they've rewritten history, denying slavery ever existed. This does not sound very Christ like to me.
