The article makes it sound like he did, yes. Although, it could have been his husband, I suppose.

My conviction is that the child is not in any way "fortunate". Monetary wealth does not bring happiness, and the abnormal "family" it is going to be brought up in will cause great social disadvantages. I hope for the child's sake that I am wrong in this prediction.

Any statistics or studies to back up the claims that the abnormal family will "cause great social disadvantages"? What disadvantages, specifically, do you envision?

It's a lot better than an 84 year old marrying some 24 year old.

I have to wonder if the social conservatives who praised Elton John for being in favor of civil unions instead of same-sex marriage will also praise him for having a child at his age - not to mention the fact that he is gay.

I never liked that guy, I can't stand his annoyingly extroverted way of being gay.
As far as the kid in this particular case, in my view the saying 'you can't have your cake and eat it, too' applies. When he is gay and lives in a gay relationship, he shouldn't have children.
The age as such is also a bit of a problem. The kid will feel as if their father is their grandfather. As long as there are a relatively young mother and maybe even sisters and brothers to compensate for a father of that age, OK, but in this case the whole scenario is all screwed up imho.

I don't need statistics to point out the obvious.

He's one of my favorite musicians, not to mention an outspoken advocate for gay rights & HIV research, so I've always had the utmost respect for him. Finally got the chance to see him perform in Las Vegas, and it was all that I'd hoped for & more. I wish him, his husband, and their new son the best of luck.
OH man, did you get to see the Red Piano tour? I went to Vegas just before it was coming back there and they were advertising everywhere.

Elton John is one of my favorite musicians, also. I've never seen him in concert, though.

I congratulate him and wish him happiness.

This same drivel was in the papers years ago when Tony Randall had a child at 75, remember?

I have come to the conclusion that there is something that is sadly wrong with the psyche of the average human being.

Maybe there is hope in the next evolution.
