That's what we do here in Michigan too.

I don't know, if I were a union member, ordered to not plow, slow down, skip streets, raise the blade so more passes would be necessary, I don't know if I'd comply with such an evil order, knowing that ambulances wouldn't be able to get through if needed.
Sometimes the ONLY way to get through as much snow as NYC got is to raise the plows and make several passes. If they try to do it in one, they'll just build up so much snow in front of the plows that they get stuck and can't move. Skipping streets could also have a logical reason as well...like there are abandon cars known to be there making it impossible to get a plow through. And bosses of snowplow crews often tell their people to SLOW DOWN because it's safer and you accomplish more in the long run. Speed gets you in trouble when plowing heavy snow, damaging equipment and property. Trucks driving with their plow up can also be explained i.e. they could be on its way back to the maintenance building for repairs (or headed out to their assigned areas). Plows break down often during heavy snows. Don't be so quick to label something "evil" until you've heard and understand all sides.

It appears is was not the union bosses (as implied by the topic), but some of the garage bosses who knew they were getting demoted. The investigation is underway, so I guess we will know for sure some time in the future.

My own city has a system.

If they have one, NYC should have one, too! We are lucky b/c we live near the water treatment plant and the mayor's house. I think it is the latter that gets our arterial plowed early-on!

To some people Finn, no matter what the facts turn out to be, it will be the "Plot of the Union Bosses". Much like the magic letter from all the Dems blasting Pelosi that FOX had the big exposee on. Whatever happened to that story by the way?

Uh-huh.

Sanitation workers targeted neighborhoods in slowdown - NYPOST.com

Their motives emerged yesterday as the city's Department of Investigation admitted it began a probe earlier this week after hearing rumblings of a coordinated job action.
400 called in sick, a "blue flu" action. There really is no doubt now this was a deliberate union work slowdown that resulted death for some.

Some people are in business of spreading their personal opinons as fact. The real facts are that the incident is under investigation, and as of today the main suspects are the garage bosses who were being demoted. This information came from the workers who were told by the garage bosses (not the union bosses) to slow down the work.

Here in Miami there was no issues whatsoever with snow removal.

It is nonsense. We don't have unionized plowers where I live and we still have people die during blizzards like NYC experienced because they can't get to the hospital, and unplowed streets for days afterward. I live on a dead end road and never expect a plow down our street until the 4th day after a big storm, if even then if we have back-to-back storms. It's just the sad nature of blizzard conditions that emergency help can't perform miracles and get through everywhere they are needed all at once. No city has that kind of resources.
