Oh yeah, which shocking incident is it the OP means? I am aware of a school shooting and 2 political event shootings with in the last 48 hours.
Since Columbine this seems to be a day to day thing for wachos and postal workers. I carry in the post office while it's against the law. I'l be dammned if i enter any place but a court of law un-armed. The courts have a slew of guns and the men willing to use them, so that much is covered.
After yesterday's tragedy one of the first things that came to mind after listening to the news and thinking of what solution they may come up with in order to prevent this from happening again I thought we may lose the right to own a gun. Why? Because this is huge and when every political leader is receiving a threat it's highly likely this will happen. What's your opinion and thoughts on this solution. Personally, I believe that there is a root problem that causes all these other problems but the cure may not be an option for our nation (has everything to do with kicking God out of our nation and the majority has lost all morals). But that's a whole nother discussion and this isn't the proper place in the forum to discuss it. But what do you think? Are we going to lose the right to own a gun?
After the first shot was fired, anyone carrying a firearm could have stopped him. The reason so many poeple were shot is because the people he targeted could not return fire.
Gun control always fails because criminals don't obey gun control laws, and from this and numerous other examples, we see what happens when others are unarmed.
Something to ponder about taking our guns away.....
It will never happen....
The World's Largest Army. The American Hunter
CONSIDER THIS:
The state of Wisconsin has gone an entire deer hunting season without someone getting killed. That's Great. There were over 600,000 hunters in the woods. Allow me to restate that number. Over the last two months, the eighth largest army in the world - more men under arms than Iran; more than France and Germany combined - deployed to the woods of a single American state to help keep the deer menace at bay. But that pales in comparison to the 750,000 who are in the woods of Pennsylvania this week. Michigan's 700,000 hunters have now returned home. Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia, and it is literally the case that the hunters of those four states alone would comprise the largest army in the world. America will forever be safe from foreign invasion of troops with that kind of home-grown firepower.
Hunting - it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of national security !
Don't forget about the lawfully armed citizens like me who don't hunt. What are those numbers? I might get into hunting someday but I haven't tested the waters yet....
Very few Americans would stand behind a total ban of firearms, no matter where they're from or what their political allegiences are.
Keep in mind, barely a murmur out of the American public when the federal firearms ban lapsed. There wasn't enough steam behind the politicians who wanted to continue the ban because their constituents weren't interested.

I'm a legal, registered firearm owner who's a vegetarian
Britain used to have freely available guns. Then one day some maniac went onto a killing spree killing little school children. After that the Brits thought it'd be a good idea to get rid of the guns and impose much stricter gun laws. That's what they did and it served them well. They don't seem to have any of those problems, you are so afraid of, by the way. In America on the other hand, crime really is getting out of control, I mean just look at the mass shooting in Arizona...
The majority of Americans actually wants to get rid of guns. Nobody likes to live in constant fear. It's just powerful interest groups and lobbyists that want to maintain the status quo...
It seems like a lot of people who thing banning guns will solve things don't stop to realize that long before people had guns, they were kniving and beating one another to death. After the guns disappeared in England, hoodlums proceeded to beat and stab one another to death instead.
