You might not like it, but fee speech is for everybody. Even the crazies.
You must admit that this type of stuff will incite unstable individuals ...

Does the church have a right to spew hatred...apparently so unfortunately...... but should they be surprised tomorrow morning to see someone sets fire to their mailbox or worse their entire building ?

Absolutely not. Free speech has limits, and incitement to violence is illegal. Hate speech should be illegal. I'd rather give up the right to full free speech to keep people from saying tripe like that. Words hurt, and picketing funerals should be a serious felony.

Why the blue font?

If you start blaming a group for "inciting" violence, then there's no end to what you can blame on whom.

You may call it "hatred", but the church has a right to say whatever they want. And if someone sets fire to the church's mailbox or their building, that person should be arrested and prosecuted.

be careful what you ask for, you may just get it. while i do not like what the WBC clan spews, i d o support their right to say what they want. this is the essence of free speech. remember if we lose our right to free speech, then there is NO right in the constitution that cannot be lost as well, and then we accelerate down the path of a totalitarian government.

Those who would give up essential liberty for a moments safety, deserve neither.

I support their right to speak, just not what they are saying.

What would be nice is if an entire cities worth of people stood between the westboro baptist church protesters and the funeral. Keep them back far enough to ensure that the families couldn't even hear a faint whisper of the morons.

Western European countries and Canada have hate speech bans, and I don't see them on the way to totalitarianism. The slippery slop analogy doesn't work here. Repealing the first amendment and replacing it with a new amendment with some restrictions on "free speech" isn't going to turn us into North Korea.

Sorry about the blue font....

So if you were Jewish ( lets say ) and a bunch of Nazis stood on your lawn and chanted " Kill the Jews " How would you handle such a thing ?

And if they drove down the street, stood in front of your church and chanted the same, what is the appropriate way for you to feel and respond ?

Don't tell that to Republicans. Socialism is evil in all of its forms, right?

I'd call the cops. Being on my lawn would be trespassing. And since this is a quiet residential neighborhood, they would probably be disturbing the peace as well.

If they were disturbing the peace, again, I would call the police. If they were quietly picketing, I wouildn't worry about them. I might encourage the church to put up a wall so that we don't have to look at their ugliness.

I don't agree with them, but taking away our First Amendment right to shut up a few people is insane. You take away the First Admendment you take away the voice of us all. You give the Government the right to tell you to get in line and shut up.
