What exactly do Tea Party supporters mean by limited or small government? How small do they want it? The more I listen to their supporters the more I feel that their beliefs are very close to those of anarchists. Do they really believe that the US doesn't need any government to function?

Examples?
Have you heard anyone advocating such, or just using hyperbole to discredit the cause?

I think they are somewhere in between no government and a governmemt that generates a deficit of over a trillion dollars per year. Their position is not unreasonable. They believe that spending and taxes are too high, In order to reduce both it will be neccessary to shrink the size of government. I would be interested in what leads you to believe they desire no government.

The OP's opinion is no different from those who thinks the Socialist beliefs are "very close" to those of Communists.

I don't know what these pot smokers are thinking, either. If they hate government so much, why don't they just all go live in somalia.

I really don't have any specific examples. It's just what I feel when I hear Tea Party supporters talking about shrinking government.

Most people would put the Tea Party on the right side of the political spectrum. Anarchists are generally on defined to be left wing. I just find it funny that these two groups want almost the same thing despite being complete opposites politically.

Huh?

Communist is far left and Anarchist is the polar opposite of Communist, thus far right.

These are oversimplied, but basically...

right wing = smaller goverment
left wing = bigger government

far right = little to no government control
far left = mostly if not total government control

Do a little more research and you will find that we want the federal government to stick to the 18 enumerated powers of the Constitution - Enumerated powers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bear in mind, the word "regulate" meant something different when the Constitution was written. So the phrase To regulate Commerce has been misinterpreted as of late. Regulate meant to promote, not control.

Oh but as I explained they don't want the same thing. Anarchists want NO government. Tea Party folks want less government than we have now substantially more than none but less than one that creates a trillion dollar deficit each year. Now if you said Tea partiers were closer to libertarians you may be onto something.
