And just how far off the map can she go? Did she not get the news flash that the nation isn't buying the rhetoric?
I hate to burst her prejudicial bubble, but the bulk of lynchings occurred prior to the fifties, and they had pretty much waned by the time the sixties came around.
I'd think she meant to say "When I was growing up, people talking and saying things, whipping folks up, caused a lot of people to start rioting and burning neighborhoods"... would have been far more truthful. I know because I was there!
Her comparison is crazy, but I won't condemn her for it. She's caught up in the heat of the moment and she's making irrational statements. That's just Whoopi. When Rush Limbaugh gets all flustered and says things that sound unhinged, I have the same reaction: That's just Rush. I don't take it too seriously.
I'm thankful that I'm able to be more even-tempered than they are, and I also keep in mind that they are both entertainers who sometimes say things just to be provocative. It's good for their ratings.

I think that incorrectly using the "lynching" statement is far more insidious than simply being "caught up in the moment".

But are you at all surprised by her hyberbole? It's typical for her, and she's not a news person. You have to consider the source. Now, if Barbara Walters said the same thing, then I think it would be something to get excited about.

But Barbara needs to reign them in! The show use to be good but then it turned into a hate fest.
I think it's great. The more ridiculous she acts, the less people pay her any mind.
Keep up the good work Whoopster and show the world what a flake you are

I agree it used to be better. After Meredith left, things went downhill.
But it's called "The View" for a reason. Reigning them in wouldn't be good for ratings. Imagine if Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck suddenly started acting like Jim Lehrer on PBS. Their ratings would plummet. The same would be true of The View.
