I so do not want to get bogged down in weaponry detail, because I think it's, well, silly, but an honest question deserves an answer: The Garand was the US service rifle in WWII, and it fires a pretty high-powered bullet that'll go through drywall like it was wet cardboard and keep going for miles.
If your neighbor's bed room is 100 feet and two walls away, a bad choice. (Unless you use it to beat the intruder into submission, something the Garand is highly suited for.)
The military uses a lot of weapons that are pretty basic. Stuff like 9mm pistols, shotguns etc. So you have to be more specific when you say "military weapons." Do you mean fully automatic? Those are already illegal.
No you don't, nobody does. Even in the country side.
The M1 Garandis a classic! It is a 30-06 caliber. Do you have any idea how common that round is regarless of the rifle manufacturer or rifle model? No, obviously you do not.
I'd like to see you tell folks in the Garand matches that they don't need this classic rifle.

I probably have more concerns when it comes to a Street Sweeper.
