Closest or strongest? Big difference between the two.

Closest: meaning a short distance away or apart in space or time - I would say Canada or Mexico.

Strongest: meaning powerful in influence, authority, resources, or means of prevailing or succeeding - I would say France or the UK.

So, considering the question wasn't technically clear to me, I voted for the 4 I mentioned... Just to be safe and have all grounds covered.

Saudi-Arabia and other authoritarian regimes, that hate freedom and democracy and oppress their own people, but are useful to the US.

Of course I don't mean distance. Otherwise define it as you wish. My thoughts were someone dependable who will back the US up in times of trouble and doesn't cause much trouble. Canada, the US's largest trading partner, rescued American embassy staff in Iran (30 years later and Canadians still bring that up) and has been in Afghanistan since 2002.

You really thought I put a geography quiz in the Politics and Other Controversies forum?

Our strongest ally is whoever happens to be on the recieving (and beneficial) end of one of our jaunts into some activity that's in our "national interest" at the time.

If you think otherwise, you're nuts.

I guess the way I see it our strongest ally is Canada. Obviously we get along well, we have the longest un-defended border in the world.

The UK and Australia are our next closest allies.
