The Peace Corp is a total waste of time, money and so forth.
A very good college friend of mine decided to join after she completed her first degree. She thought is was so great and she was going to really make a difference. We all tried to tell her that it is a waste of time, but she would not listen. She went to Africa with such high hopes. She came back in terrible health and feeling like nothing would ever change and that the Peace Corp was not such a great group.
One year later, she went back to Africa for a safari vacation and visited the village she lived in while in the Peace Corp and witnessed that NOTHING had changed. The things she has taught the people in her village were still not being practiced. She also noted that many European peace corps volunteers did not waste time trying to educate, but just threw money out instead.
Overall, she was very dissapointed with the whole Peace Corp experience and could not find many favorable things to say about the organization at all.
This is a subject that raises a great deal of stress in my thoughts. Part of me thinks we should help other people live better. Another part of me is insulted when the people we are trying to help are complete ingrates. Yet another part of me is infuriated when the local males assault and rape our women.
My immediate suggestion is first to realize that most societies think they are doing just fine so resent our trying to “help”. We should realize this attitude and don't bother trying to help when the help is rejected. We should just let the societies go to Hell by themselves regardless of the human tragedy and waste. In the third case we should be have access to our own thugs and impose our own justice. I believe we should just shoot the creeps that exert control by rape and the police that protect them. At least we would be more respected if we did. Responding to rape with reason is absurd.
Agreed! Rape is the primary method of keeping women intimidated. If men were the victims instead of the most common perpetrators we would see a far different law and societal response.

Hugely moronic FAIL!!!!
The moronic fail is on the part of the Peace Corp. They encourage young women to join, send them to places with cultures with long histories of sexual assault on women, provide them no protection and then blame the victem for the assault.
What those women went through was terrible.There should be a way to prosecute the leaders of this organization.
