Legally it is still "Washington's Birthday". The date was shifted but the name did not change.
Are you absolutely sure about that? I am thinking (without Googling) just the opposite. The the date didn't change but the name did. That is, what was once Washington's birthday is now called President's Day.
Anyway, so far as the general topic goes, I have no problem with making Dr. Kings birthday a national holiday IF that is what people want. Personally, I don't really observe it but I recognize and respect that many do. My real issue is that there are some out there who take for granted that anyone who does not make a big production about it must be motivated by "racist" reasons.
I'm pissed because here in America we should have 9/11 day called "national day of mouring". That's what we should have, because our American people were going to work as proud Americans, only to never go home again.
The following year without hesitation that day should have been recognized as a national day of mourning and everything should be closed.
but no, we have martin luther king......................
One has nothing to do with the other. Besides, we might have more 9/11's in the future that dwarf the last one.
This was during a time when bigots were Democrats. But this was switched with the Dixiecrats. The GOP represents that bigoted, Jim Crow-embracing faction today. But you knew that.
QUICK really? This man through dignity and peace demonstrated what is truly great about America. You seem to have forgotten "President's Day" as well.
President's Day honors ALL Preidents. Not just one. I never said he wasn't a good man. IMO there have been other men in American history more deserving.

I realized my error but, have not had time to edit. My apologies.
I meant to say no other American. And I didn't spend that many years in public school. Thanks for the snide remark. It reflects well upon you.
