Exactly my point. The covereage is completely lopsided.

There is more focus on the congresswoman because, in addition to the tragedy being a human interest story (which would involve all the victims), there is the added piece that a politician was almost murdered. That should disturb anyone in a democracy. Attempted assassination threatens our style of government.

I was kind of worried today when I heard she was trached and had a feeding tube placed. I don't know if this meant a gastric tube which is more permanent than just a tube in the nose for nutrition.
A trach in her was only to assist in her breathing and will not be permanent. As for the feeding tube, I have a feeling it was an NG tube, that too is most likely not permanent either. Both items are very common after traumatic brain injuries in people recovering in an ICU setting. It's to take the stress off the body in other areas so that her body can devote more time to healing her injuries.*

*Speculation from a health professional based on news reports and experience.

I don't know what "gory details" the OP is talking about. As a Tucson resident AND an employee of a hospital here, all I've seen is basic details, not gory ones. And it's quite rude to create a thread like this. Keep your rude, cold feelings to yourself. But I agree with another poster- you cared enough to start a thread. Maybe you're just looking to steal the limelight onto yourself with this thread?

Aren't you at all interested in knowing if the Glock failed?

Has this event changed your mind about what kind of gun you would keep for home protection?

Geez, they didn't go into details on how the trach or NG/JG tube was place, so I fail to see how the 'details' were 'ghory'. (And it's gory btw).

I wish I had more to say, but hospitals have very strict patient privacy codes. And as much as I could want to give concerned people details, it isn't my place and I respect that. The info I speculated on with the trach and the feeding tube was just that-speculation. I do not know of Ms. Giffords' condition personally or professionally. I've just worked in ICU and other units and have assisted with the care of TBI patients..
