Anybody who would actually want that sign in their physical possession cannot be straight in the head...

2 years seems way too long to go to jail for stealing a sign. Just another example of a travesty of justice.

I think stealing this particular sign is far far worse than stealing a stop sign or a caution sign off of a road. I agree w/Sheena 12 - it says a lot and that in itself is pretty scary.

Exactly sugermaple. This was not a sign that read "County Jail" and the thief was not a 17 year okd boy.
This was a sign that opened up to the "Gates of Hell" for millions of innocent men, woman and children.

It was also a taste of the Nazi's cruel humor.
It translated into "Work Makes Free" which was untrue.
Unlike some of the other camps, Auschwitz was built as an EXTERMINATION camp.

The only way out of that place was through the chimney.

PS NO I am not Jewish - in fact I am in part of German decent and I am Lutheran.
Jewish people did receive the worst treatment under Hitler, but Hitler's hatred included those of Slavic decent, Roma people and more.

I'd have liked him and the others, to receive much stiffer sentences. Send a message: Certain lines, should not be crossed.

nah. like others said, this is a symbolic act. would you say the same if it were a stop sign and someone was killed? that actually happened where i grew up.

no one steals a sign from a concentration camp for a GIGGLE. this is like tagging the statue of liberty. as the above poster put it, some lines should not be crossed.

Experts on Sweden's far right say Hogstrom founded and led the Swedish neo-Nazi group National Socialist Front in the 1990s.

However, he left the organisation in 1999 after two of its members were convicted of a high-profile police murder, and became an active opponent of the extreme right, according to Expo, a research foundation.

Prosecutor Robert Parys said the main motive of the group of six that carried out the theft was financial.

this was from the article. if they had just been kids larking about, i could see two years as being excessive. but this was definitely politically and racially motivated. they ought to give him TEN years.

I think that his sicko sense of humor might be brought to an end If Polish officials would recreate a week in Auschwitz for this moron.

No torture or horrid medical experiments, just a week of heard labor, with a piece of rotten bread, and a scant cup of "soup" while working twelve hours a day while wearing light weight pajamas in the freezing cold might just do the trick.

Then at least 10 years of hard labor at a prison there by ruining the shank of his life.

He would be the lucky one still, because in the end he would get out alive.

Two years is a JOKE! Anyone else agree?
