i figure that day will come, why should a person that weighs 100 pounds pay the same price as a person that weighs 220 pounds.. jets burn jet fuel. the heavier one is the more fuel it takes to carry him ,her to>> a to b..
just give them airlines some more time ,it will happen..
No because that is sex discrimination and height discrimination because men weigh more than women and tall people weigh more than short people. Neither one of those is a health or lifestyle issue so there is no way one could make the case that one should be punished for it.
Also, your premiss is wrong. The pilot works the throttle and controls the same regardless of the plane being full or nearly empty. The empty weight of the plane is such a large percent of the whole weight that the fuel burn is not noticiblly different if someone weighs a few hundred pounds more.
Volume, not mass is the limiting factor here as the area inside the plane is far more restricted than the thrust of the engines. People who exceed the seat area assigned to them should have to pay for an extra seat, but weight is not a consideration.
I think that if airlines are going to let morbidly obese people fly in a seat directly next to someone else. The obese person should pay a fee, based on the length of the flight. And that fee goes directly to the person(s) sitting next to them. The airline shouldn't get the money. The person who now has less room gets the money for getting less than what they originally paid for, aka a whole seat to use.
That is a great idea! I had a flight once (window seat) where I sat next to this fat dude who was so fat I was plastered up against the window like a fly. Not an, "I'm sorry" or anything. 2 hours of hell smelling this guy's rancid lard.
I literally had to take a shower when we landed so I could get that smell out of my nostrils.

I'm not sure that even a $100/hr fee could make up for that. Ick.
Maybe when this happens to people, they should call the attendant and ask for a whole seat or a refund. Basically when you book a flight, you are reserving a whole seat. If the airline can't deliver a whole seat, you get a refund.
While I don't have the problem ;I think that looking around that airlines need to perhaps base fair on weight. That way they could also allow them a seat that better fits them not just two smaller seats. Of course that also goes for a section for people with kids ;so as not to bother those traveling alot who don't want to be bothered. For weight it often seems many makeup for the weight in the luggage they carry really;so maybe total weight should be considered also.
Better yet maybe they should put all morbidly obese people in the same row or sections next to each other so they can experience what it's like. Problem solved!!!
Then you will really hear the complaints. This might teach them the reasoning behind paying for 2 seats.
Is there an Air Samoa or Air Tonga? Would be funny if they had all small seats too.
I hope not!!
