Are you sure it's not about people gaining too much weight: where everything just appears to be getting smaller and squished together.
I'm quite sure it is. Only my excuse is menopause. It's like having PMS that just keeps on accumulating! It never goes away!
I think it's normal to think things are shrinking (and maybe they are), but when that pair of pants I put on goes into double digits, there just ain't no denying it!!!
That is why stretch pants made with Lycra or spandex are popular again.

I have always paid for shipping by weight. so whats the problem? it costs more to ship the obese and they should charge per pound like everything else. problem solved. pay what you weigh

Ok, good and fine. But just what do you propose? That people step on scales? And where do they step on the scales at the airport? The counter where luggage is checked? TSA check-in? Just where is the most "respectful" place to get this done? I won't even do that at my Dr's office.
Unless they can accommodate them in the luggage area, yes for sure.
Id they take up way more than normal space (like Michael Moore), then charge for two.

I guess this is only going to get worse unless people lose weight and get in shape. One thing I know for sure, I would be absolutely MORTIFIED if I were escorted off a plane for being a large person.

No more better motivation for them to get their fat selves to a gym and put down the Twinkie.
YES. There should be a standard for human cargo and if you're overweight and double the size of one human you should pay for two seats.
