But that, of course, is a foreign concept to liberals.[/quote]

What the hell are you talking about? Parenting and is not a partisan issue. I know many of my liberal friends are very dedicated, undivorced parents who expect their kids to succeeed. And they do.

By the way, Asian Americans lean liberal:

Asian-Americans Lean Left Politically

And conservatives marriages are more likely to fail:

We can all pick and choose stuff off of the web to support our beliefs.

(teacher - 20 years now) My 2 cents on the topic:
It really is CULTURE and not race. Yes, every (and I do mean every) Asian student I've ever had worked exceptionally hard, got all As, and if they were even close to a B would panic and say something like "My parents will KILL me if I don't get an A"...but I also had many students from Africa (recent immigration here) who had the same work ethic and the same attitude. It's all about what they get at home guys!

An interesting sociological experiment which of course would never come to fruition but is nice to fantasize about:

Take a black baby and a Hispanic baby, both born in the US, and place them with an Asian family. Take an Asian baby and place with a poor black family on welfare, single mom, who never graduated high school. Track their progress.

I'm a firm believer in nurture over nature.

Anyway, fair enough about the internet, but does that mean it is untrue?

Saying that liberals know nothing about education, income, and family structure strikes me as just vacuously insulting. But that is the right wing style these days. To sneeringly claim superiority when your high horse has
no legs to stand on. Since when is it good politics and good citizenship to smear $120 million people or so of your fellow citizens?

Now, I would never claim to be an expert on education, economics or family structure, but I have a pretty stable family life, and I am an involved parent. Most of my liberal friends are too. As is my conservative brother. However, we just learned his 19 year old daughter who went to christian private schools her whole life is now knocked up and going to marry bubba. I wish them the very best, but I am not optimistic of the chances of that forced, young marriage lasting. I hope I am wrong.

Back to the Asian-Americans. On average, they are more goal-oriented and less impulsive than American kids in the early years. Those traits lead to university education, and often a liberal worldview, even though their social behaviors are conservative in the best sense of the word.

Tom Thumb,

Ranting is ok. Your reason was better than most. Interesting how the term "***" has evolved. They bombed Pearl Harbor, as you know, so the anger and resentment was a major social issue of the last century. However, what is amazing to me is how much the Japanese, and Japanese-Americans (who really got the shaft in WWII in this country) are now almost universally respected. They have proven to be impressive citizens, and highly valued. So, the "***" slur has almost no impact and relevance these days.

I know white kids that do better than asians.

I've known asians that do worse than most everyone in the class.

It all depends on if the kid goes home, do the parents make them do their homework, or are the parents not around?

Someone on here noted 2 parent households. Half truth. If the parents aren't home it doesn't matter, the kid will go watch the Jersey Shore or the Kardashians and the homework doesn't get done.

No matter how hard a teacher works, if the days learning isn't reinforced at home than the kid probably isn't going to pass the test.

That's a GREAT question. And i don't really have the answer.

I look at it this way....depends on how one looks at it. Compare the Masai with the Germans (just tossing out an ethnic group). The Masai are technologically inferior in every aspect. But does that make their CULTURE "inferior?" I'd say no, because they are seemingly happy in the state in which they live. Besides, they've never killed tens of millions of people either.

But looking at it subjectively, i'd personally rather live among the Germans because i'm accustomed to a certain standard of living. That doesn't make the German culture superior, but it's damn sure more comfortable....speaking strictly for myself.

Here in the United States, i'd say that since we all have the same culture to some degree, my own conclusion would be that Asian work ethic and emphasis on education is superior to the other ethnic groups on average!! Does that mean that their actual culture is superior? Perhaps. I can see how someone could look at it that way. But to me, emphasis on education is just a small part of culture. There are plenty of other aspects to culture...at least in my opinion.

But i must say, you asked a pretty good question.

You can find prostitution in numerous countries. It's legal in England, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands and it's practiced in every corner of the world illegally.

What's your point?

I don't see why not?

It would probably be much more politically incorrect to describe how some other groups are "challenged".
