And not all Chinese immigrants are the same. They come in three distinctive groups as a matter of fact.

I tell that to chronic young pot heads- "Give it time and you will be cleaning the toilets of some Asian math student who gets a great corporate job because they studied and did not smoke pot...' Our kids and young adults do not realize that the tables will be turned and they will be the servants doing the laudry of those that used to do OUR laundry...wake up stoners

LOL The thread title said "superior." When the hell will we get away from any idea that any group is more superior than the other?

Never!

Humans have always had the tendancy to think one culture is more superior to the other. It isn't right.

One thing that we as individuals can do to eliminate racial stereo types is to look in ourselves and let others tell their story instead of making up a story to tell for them.

Do you actually know any Asian people? I mean REALLY know them? Do you have any idea the culture of pervasive drinking, and a lot of cases infidelity, and spousal abuse is part of Chinese, Japanese, Korea, Thai and other Asian cultures.

Do you know how much stress Asian males are under to perform under cultural standards that are extremely inflexible and rigid?

There are a lot of people applauding the accomplishments of Asians based on test scores, college degrees, and financial status. Most don't see the price these people pay in terms of unbalanced lives in terms of work and family, insane amounts of job stress, and cultures that in many ways stifle originality or creativity.

Most of the people commenting on here are idiots. The reason why Asian Americans do better on standardized tests and academically is because they come from families who put a huge emphasis on education. Why is that? Because Asian immigration to America is, and always has been, highly selective. Unlike with Mexico, there is no simple fence to hop for Asians coming to America. Immigrating to America from across the Pacific is a much harder task. Because of this, America has always had the upper hand in being extremely selective in choosing which Asians come to America. This is the reason why Asians are less than 5% of the U.S. population while Latinos are set to be the majority in a few decades. Often, only the most educated professionals from Asia have been allowed to immigrate to the United States. Asians are NOT inherently "smarter" than anyone else based on their physical features that are tied to the social construct of race. I don't think all the dirt-poor Chinese kids across the Pacific who sew your Nikes and all of your clothes and everything else you own fit into any of the ridiculous superiority stereotypes listed. No, the people in China who made your Nikes, iphone, every article of clothing in your closet and all your kid's happy meal toys were NOT engineers or doctors. If all the poor people from Asia moved over here, America would not become a more advanced utopian civilization filled with smarter people just because America had more Asians, but we would be a third world country with a massive uneducated populace. Last time I checked, most recent technologic innovative ideas were born here in America. Idiots...

Unraveling the Model Minority Myth of Asian American Students | Education.com

Also, many of the stats are skewed. The SAT has been proven to be culturally biased. This is why Blacks do poorly on the SAT's because Blacks often live in environments completely devoid of White people. Asians are the least segregated racial group and are much more likely to live around people of other races unless they live in the very few completely segregated Asian pockets in NYC or San Francisco. The insider knowledge of White American culture confounded with a more study-oriented home environment from better educated immigrant parents leads to this skew.

And no, Asians in America are not a monolithic group. Places in California have a large number of Southeast Asian refuges from wars overseas as well as much less educated immigrants remote rural places in Asia. This is because California is the lowest entry point for Asians fresh from the third world. It is where Asians of all incomes first step foot fresh off the boat. These Asian immigrants and their children often do NOT match the tired stereotypes. These Asians are more likely to be poor and live in gang infested environments. Places where Asians are actually statistically significant show a much wider diversity of incomes, education levels and lifestyles among Asian people. The Bay Area is a prime example. In the Bay Area, you have upper middle class Asians working in Silicon Valley as well as Asians representing a large to a dominant chunk of the population of some of the historically most economically depressed, crime-ridden and violent ghettos in America in Oakland, Richmond and San Francisco. The "Murder Dubs" in East Oakland are an example of a place where Asian kids are more likely to rob you or sell you crack than even attend high school to perform the SAT's.

Anyone who is accomplished in life is under a great deal of stress. You don't achieve that level of success without enduring stress regardless of their race, skin color, religion etc. Are you going to criticize someone for becoming the President of the United States by saying "Yeah but they endured a lot of stress and marital problems to become the President" yeah...so???

Those who pursue careers in the arts take a tremendous amount of risk and the vast majority of people in the arts do not achieve financial success and are not able to support themselves. For every artist that achieves financial success and is able to support themselves, there are a million others who are making minimum wage and just trying to make ends meet. You can't fault Asians for instructing their children to pursue careers in which they will be able to support themselves and their families instead of living with their parents or going into debt because they can't support their lifestyle like many non-Asians. Yes, perhaps that "stifles originality and creativity" and I'm sure those Asians are pondering that as they drive their Range Rovers on their way to the hospital.

The point is some people that aspire to be successful do so because THEY WANT TO. Many Asians are driven because THEY ARE CULTURALLY COMPELLED TO DO SO. It's this difference that leads to higher suicide rates and other stress related issues seen in many Asian cultures.

Also if you just care about crass materialism then I guess riding a around in a Range Rover is all you need to make you happy.

You couldn't be more wrong. I've traveled to Asian countries. They are successful because of their culture which emphasizes education even within their own countries. And the reason for that is their countries are poor and education is the primary means of escaping poverty. If you examine schools in Asian countries, the curriculum is advanced and far more demanding than their American counterparts. Asian children are taught to read earlier and do advanced mathematics and science in primary school whereas their American counterparts don't begin this until middle school.

Your California example is flawed as well. Even in the poor urban areas in California, Asian families will sacrifice and save money so that their children can attend college AND graduate school. A lot of people like yourself make the mistake of assuming those Asians in bad neighborhoods are poor because they work at a convenience store. In most of those cases, they own the store and earn six figure incomes. They live below their means and save. And even the Asian students who are forced to attending these poor inner city public schools in California often finish at the top of their class.

What you fail to appreciate is that Asian CULTURE is vastly superior. I agree that they are not necessarily genetically predisposed to having a higher IQ but their culture emphasizes education, hard work and sacrifice which is the formula for their success.
