Why have states to begin with? Why not just a large federal government like other European countries? After all, they failed to use centralization when some nitwit invented mainframe computers. Why not repeat the same mistake by modeling our government in the same manner?

Arizona has not done anything unconstitutional. If you think asking for ID is unconstitutional, you have really big issues to go tackle and ask the USSC why they say it is legal to to do DUI stops where the driver did NOTHING wrong and is pulled over and asked for ID and have their names ran through warrant databases. Until you successfully get an answer on that and CHANGE that law, Arizona did nothing wrong. I can't comment on the rest of your OP because you provided nothing.

It really seems that its more a case of other people might get the idea that the federal government isnot the only government mjentioned in the constitutionand it actaully limits the power of the federal government.Basci; no link required.
The Constitution articles are often 'interpreted' in various ways (like 1st and 2nd for example that limit our rights to bear arms and free speech in certain circumstances)
If the parents breached the border illegally in the first place it would seem to me the amendment is misapplied. Thus Arizona is correct.

As amendments go, the 14th doesn't suffer from the grammatical ambiguity of those written in the 18th century.

There isn't much room for "interpretation". There is another problem in that the State of Arizona is well outside of its scope of powers by establishing a statute that supersedes federal law or the Constitution, see Article VI, Clause 2.
This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in pursuance thereof; and all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the constitution or laws of any state to the contrary notwithstanding.
