Liberals have a big influence in the Democratic Party, they're economically dangerous..Too bad...
Socially Conservatives have a big influence in the GOP, and they're too backward about gays, immigrants, non-whites..
So, a thirs party would be a good thing : fiscally conservative (low taxes, pro-business, pro-growth) and socially liberal (supporting the gay mariage, accepting more immigrants and their rights..)

The legal hinderances to creating a viable third party are so strong that it's simply not likely to happen, so waiting for a third party is a pipe dream. Better to get inside one of the existing parties and start transforming it, just as the Evangelical's did the GOP. Of course, that takes time and effort, neither of which most people are willing commit to.
We're American's and we want instant results!
And, don't forget that both of today's two major parties began life as "alternate" parties so, speaking from an historical perspective, the likelihood of a third party turning out just like the parties we have today is high. In other words, "Animal Farm" in politics.
Plus there's this: Don't ever make the mistake of believeing the current parties aren't a reflection of their membership or a reflection of the wants and desires of The People. They are. Any political party lives and dies by delivering what their members and supporters want. Neither the so-called "liberal" Democrats, nor the so-called "conservative" Republican's adopted their basic philosophies and platforms in a vacuum.
Those platforms were voted on, by a majority of attendees at precinct, state and national conventions. They weren't just crafted out of thin air.
Libertarian Party should be fiscally conservative and socially liberal, but I don't know to what extend that is the reality of the people on the ballots.

Legally immigrants who become citizens have rights.
Sorry, you cant be fiscally conservative and think the government is responsible for social engineering/justice at the same time.
The two values are mutually exclusive.
No, they're not. Government can provide anything AND pay for it responsibly if it's done right. It's simply a matter of prioritizing where the available money goes.
Where we go wrong as a nation is never prioritizing at all and simply borrowing money to pay for everything we want. It doesn't HAVE to be that way.

Name one piece of evangelical legislation (outside of the defense of marriage act) passed by Congress. If there are more, it's a small handful. The evangelicals didn't transform the party--the neoconservatives are still in power, but they sure like the evangelical voters who keep putting them into office because they talk the evangelical talk, and then turn around and do what they want instead.
Most liberals that I know are socially liberal and fiscally conservative.
Most liberals that I know are socially retarded and fiscally dependent.
