I think it is a GREAT idea! Domestic Violence is a dirty little secret. Those offenders can appear in the eye of the public to be great people but to their mates/family they are not. You never really know someone until you either live with them or are in a relationship with them. Silence is what helps keeps Domestic Violence going.
Anther law that epopel think once you pass one ;its solve and we can moce on to the nest problem. omestic violence is hard to solve. As it is now most see noi jail time and its hard still to get many victims to co-operate at trail time.

And how will this "silence" get names on a list ?
How has the sex offender list worked out ?

The sex offenders list has worked out well! Lets people know who is in their area and how to keep safe for those that choose to look people up.
People dont like to talk about Domestic Violence so hence the silence, what people dont understand is that is what fuels it to continue. And not being educated on what defines Domestic Violence because it is not just physical abuse.

So who says the registry would only hold the names of men? Women can be convicted of domestic abuse, too, ya know.
The shame of it is, more women get away with being abusive than men do, because as much of a stigma as it is for women, it's an even bigger one for men to admit to.
Given that, you can imagine how much higher these numbers would be if all occurrences were reported:
"Approximately 1.3 million women and 835,000 men are physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually in the United States." Cite

Not me.
Personally, I think we need to start by raising our children better. Parents have to stop making excuses for their little bullies, they have to teach and enforce consequences (and do so without using violence!). They need to teach their children how to recognize abuse (because it often starts out non-violent) and give them the self-esteem to be able to not just walk away, but RUN -- and most importantly, never, ever go back!
I'm not sure about a database. If there's even just one conviction, that person's record is public anyway. I don't know anyone who runs background checks on people they date now, so what makes Texas think they'll start just because a new law is passed? Do they think the fact that their names will go on a list that it will be a deterrent to a person who abuses their partners? Piffle.
