"A key House Republican is quickly pressing forward with her goals to scale back U.S. funding for the United Nations. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, told The Hill that oversight would be a key function of the panel, particularly funding to the U.N. Human Rights Council (HRC) that is 'a waste of taxpayer dollars.' I don't think that that's a pro-democracy group, it's a rogue's gallery, pariah states, they belong there because they don't want to be sanctioned."

The World from The Hill: U.N. funding an early target for House Republicans - TheHill.com

The article also mentions a large percent of procurement contracts by the UN involve fraud and that UN peacekeeping operations are "plagued with numerous cases of abuse and sexual exploitation."

How effective is the UN? Where does it excel and where does it fail?

Isn't the USA the total deadbeat of the UN?

1,3 billion in arrears as far as I know.

I suspect the US dollars status as world currency has been the only thing keeping the USA from membership suspension of some kind. In which case, losing the ability to make decisions on trade rules would bring the USA back in humiliation.

The UN has outlived its usefulness.

Can anyone name anything that the UN is good for?

Article 29

3. These rights and freedoms in no case may be exercised contrary to the purpose and principals of the United Nations.
So, what are these purposes and principals? It seems to me this very clause gives the UN power to “DICTATE”.
Defund these hypocrites and let them open a shop in some other third world.

When Buchanan ran for POTUS one of his best applause lines was "we should not give them one red cent we should kick the diplomats out of the country and then fumigate the building. { paraphrased from memory}

Scandals and corruption like oil for food. Other than that, I can't think of a darn thing it IS good for.

I'm down with defunding the UN and kicking them out of our property and country.
