It's hard to satisfy a liberal with an answer since they consider everyone to the right of Dennis Kucinich a far right wing conservative.

McCain was known for being a moderate but lately he's been getting criticized for trying to appeal to the far right by changing is position on issues like illegal/undocumented-immigration.

I would call Obama a centralist really. Clinton was till left of center and Obama is further left. We really haven't has a far right republican president as Goldwater was as close as its come. Reagan was prtty much a central as a republcian is elctable as Clinton was for democrats. Basic difference in governing belief really. But now days center means between the two exteme of the parties has always. A centralistin the 50's would be much more to the right than now.

Actually, you're right. Others may see this as facetious, but the Republican Party is so far to the right that the Paul's actually DO look moderate!

I was gonna say Tom Coburn or Sarah Palin....because that party is actually to the right of even them.

George Bush was a centralist. He was for big social programs like democrats and had the rhetoric of the social conservatives.

I don't know what he was. I do know that when he was prez, no one complained about how he wasn't a "real conservative" until he became unpopular. So long as he was at least fairly popular, Repubs had no complaints. Hell, i've never seen a president with such a fanatical following like Bush had among conservatives. Critisizing him could damn near get you into a fistfight in his first 6 years.
