Ok we agree on one thing-they are attracted to a perceived lifestyle-well put.

Whether or not we actually agree is dependent on our respective definitions of "perceived lifestyle". There are of course those who consider Porltand in particular to an urban liberal haven of sorts, but the common denominator among people wishing to relocate to Oregon seems to be an attraction to the natural beauty of the Pacifc Northwest.

Portland Ore. Gangs find new, deadly turf
Another Portland Ore. article: http://www.opb.org/thinkoutloud/show...gang-violence/

I guess Mr. Aaron M. Renn didn't see the below quote. Maybe I should email it to him.

Quote:
"If Portland doesn’t do something, Portland could be the next L.A. in the next 10 years."

San Francisco is 52% minority and considered the most liberal city in the US. Oakland is 75% minority (30% Black btw). Berkeley is the most White at 55%...

I mean there are some cities that are Whiter and liberal, and there are some cities that aren't.

So basically, this thread is basically trying to insinuate that most liberals would prefer a city devoid of minorities.

The statistics being used to reach this conclusion are pretty laughable, since don't take into account minorities other than African-Americans, nor do they give any legitimate reason for the cities being selected (ruling out NYC, Chicago, Los Angeles, the three largest cities in the country, all of them left-leaning).

There are plenty of liberal racists. But if you are going to look at racial demographics and political geography, you will find that highly conservative areas are overwhelmingly homogeneous, especially when compared to the left-leaning counterparts.

I'll just do top 10, since I doubt that anyone who disagrees with me is still reading this.

(Chicago is #17, New York is #21, and Los Angeles is among the "top three liberal cities in Southern California")

The "dream cities" nonsense is just a way to distract from the facts that most of the furthest left-leaning cities in the nation are not predominantly white, and that the three largest cities in our nation are all left-leaning and extremely diverse.

What are the conservative "dream cities"? Here's a link that will get you started, and it even gives us entire counties:

America’s top 20 conservative-friendly counties | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment

Go check out the demographics on some of those counties and come back to me.

I don't have a lot of love for the kind of liberalism you find in places like Portland, but the fact that you're making this attack from a conservative stance is ridiculous.

If the OP or any conservative posters disagree with me, please let me know. I'm pretty sure that, in general, the right in America is much whiter than the left, but I'd love for someone to disabuse me of this belief.

You know what, I'm particularly bored today. I'll even give you the info on "America’s top 20 conservative-friendly counties" according to the Daily Caller, or at least the top 5.

America’s top 20 conservative-friendly counties | The Daily Caller - Breaking News, Opinion, Research, and Entertainment

1. Williamson County, Tennessee - 91.55% White, 5.18% Black or African American, 0.20% Native American, 1.25% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.97% from other races, and 0.82% from two or more races. 2.52% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos of any race.

2. Forsyth County, Georgia - 95.05% White, 0.70% Black, 0.25% Native American, 0.80% Asian, 2.01% Pacific Islander, 2.27% from other races, and 0.93% from two or more races. 2.57% of the population were Hispanic of any race.

3. Montgomery County, Texas - 88.25% White, 3.49% Black or African American, 0.47% Native American, 1.11% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 4.86% from other races, and 1.79% from two or more races. 12.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

4. Shelby County, Alabama - 89.80% White, 7.40% Black or African American, 0.33% Native American, 1.03% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.71% from other races, and 0.72% from two or more races. 2.03% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

5. Hamilton County, Indiana - 94.38% White, 1.54% Black or African American, 0.17% Native American, 2.44% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.54% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 1.59% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Wow. Look at how incredibly white these counties are. Apparently "conservative-friendly" is a coded term for "no minorities".

I adore the Pacific Northwest and spent some time in and around Portland this summer.
But I must admit I prefer the Seattle area and all it has to offer, the islands at your back door, Mt. Rainier and Northern Cascades Nat'l Park. Heaven to me. But I can't afford to live there.
