Honestly, it seems like there is a new one every week detailing some trashy behavior or other. And don't even get me started on the beatification of Bristol Palin in People and elsewhere.
Meanwhile, two adults in a long-term committed relationship with the means to provide care, comfort and support without having to rely on government assistance are reviled.
Unbelievable.

Yeah... that's pretty much why I don't buy the "family values" argument. If they actually stood by that statement, I wouldn't give them a hard time about it - but for crying out loud, have some consistency in your "values!"

Homophobia is the fear of homosexuals and the fear of the acceptance of homosexuality.

To simply say "I don't get homosexuality - I think it's unnatural and icky" doesn't necessarily make one homophobic. It's possible to not understand or not like and approve of something without being afraid of it.

You can tell a homophobic person through his or her actions. If one expresses the sentiment above ("I don't get homosexuality - I think it's unnatural and icky"), and then acts upon it through attempted repression, then you have a homophobe. Those repressive desires and actions come directly out of fear. Homophobes are people who vote to ban homosexuals from getting married. Homphobes are people who advocate for laws banning sodomy or banning homosexuals from serving in the military. Homoboes are people who pass laws saying that homosexuals cannot be public school teachers. Homophobes are people who shield pictures of gay families from the public eye.

The question isn't - "are these people homophobic?" - the question is - "is their homophobia justified?".

They are dumb idiots who know nothing of values or consistency. I remember in second grade I was accepting and friendly to everybody. I was told "You are mature for your age." Now I am an adult and I still see adult people acting like idiotic second graders. How dumb and pathetic is that?

The masses are so dumbed down by fundamentalist religions and NFL football. Dr. Noam Chomsky covered this reality decades ago. 99% of the masses in Arkansas probably don't even know who Dr. Noam Chomsky is. 85% probably haven't even read a single book outside the scope of the bible.

That is homophobic? I am so sick of your doublespeak.

If you are a gay man: you are clearly not helping your people.

Noam Chomsky proved decades ago how stupid the masses are, especially the ones who are fundamentalist and love football:

And if you believe I don't understand what censorship is, I think you need to look at my profession... I've literally written papers on the topic, and have faced these issues regularly in my line of work. Trust me, I know more about it than most of the people in here! You all can discuss it on a message board, I actually have to defend it (or the lack of it) on a regular basis to the community.
You were only one of the people who mentioned censorship regarding this action - there were others. I agree that private business cannot censor - only governments can censor.

I sympathize with the difficulties that librarians have on this issue, particularly school librarians.

But everyone, including you, spreads hatred and defamation all over this community (city-data).

Everyone has a point of view, most likely one their life experiences brought them to. If you have a point of view there will always be some person or group out there who opposes your view.

Coming in late to this thread I read, with no real opinion on the matter, so much hatred that bounded out of the starting gate. And when I analyzed it, it came down to this: People have a viewpoint, they feel a certain way about something. So, people like you get offended. I bet you've never met the people you spewed your hatred to on this thread, yet you hate them. To me, this is the bigger problem with our society--not the fact heteros don't like homos' lifestyles or parents want porn away from their kids. To you, the fact is, there are posters on here who have differing opinions than you so you attack (anonymously, I'll add).

Obviously you're not the only one. Sometimes when I take a break from work I come in here to see some good political debate, and the threads are littered with posts like this. Why?

After thinking about it I'd say, although I don't agree with Elton John's lifestyle, I could care less if my kids see him on the front of a magazine. I still love his music and I parent my kids the way I want, so I'm not worried they'll turn gay. But because I happen to be on the other end of your viewpoint, I already know you hate me. I didn't cite bigotry, I didn't bring religion into it, and while disagreeing with most the posts hereI didn't call anyone's opinion into questin.

So why do you and others do it? Because some poeple on the other side do it? Come on, that's not a good enough reason. Aren't you supposed to be tolerant even if the other side isn't.

I'm worried about society, but not because of shielded magazines or homosexuality. I'm worried because of people like you who want so bad to hate the people you don't agree with.

Thank you, and I know you weren't only referring to me... I just wanted to clear that up, since a few people took my comments the wrong way.

And yes, it is a difficult part of our job! Can you imagine trying to please everyone, especially in a community as diverse as the Bay Area? Oy vey.
