Open communication is necessary for a free and politically open society. Many governments fear communications when the messages threaten either the ruling class or their appointed politicians.

I do not think any US politicians, except for the most extreme right wing or theocratic, have any desire to stop communications. The RW would want to stop any discussion of or by liberals or communists and the theocrats any opposition to their religious beliefs.

Obama and other lawmakers are deluding themselves if they believe they can suppress information from getting out. Sneakernet, USB keys, pirate radio, CBs. Good luck to these dimwits in DC.

With how many people use the internet, I don't think it would be a bad idea to implement an emergency alert system like radio and TV to warn of severe weather, tornadoes, hurricanes, or republicans on the loose
