Yeah, you sound like one of the 5% for whom AA was quite the success and good fortune to you! And I mean that sincerely.
Likewise, there are the unfortunates that need more help and just are not getting the resources they need.

I got and remain sober from a lot of hard work and doing things when I didn't feel like it - and not doing things when I felt like I did.
That 5% cannot be confirmed or denied.
And if my area is any indication, about 50% of those who I got sober with are still sober.
I'm not special, I'm just a garden variety drunk who doesn't drink now.
Are you going to pay for people to go to rehab?
People don't have resources to get cancer treatments.
If people are going to get sober, they're going to get sober.
If they're not motivated, they tend to blame the world around them and AA or other programs for being terrible.
It's really all on them.
