Yes one of the wealthiest counties where police officers make over 3 times the median income. Some evidently are more wealthy than others.
Here again ragging on cops. You have the wrong info on Nassau median income. But you had alot of wrong info on the other thread. Goodnight seems to have a problem with cops. He was on another closed thread and thats all he referred to and will try to turn this into a cop bashing thread. Long Island Newsday is a rag that has bashed cops for over 25 yrs at least. Here basically is the real story from a real paper.

Just go to the thread on LI Civil Service salaries and pensions and see what transpired, or we can just re hash it all over again here
Its a combination of both tea party politics and massive police pay & compensation.
Mangano removed a heat energy tax, as well as removing a proposed 3.9% increase on the county taxes (about $60 for the average homeowner), during a time when sales tax revenue was down without doing anything to get revenue from any other sources or doing anything to cut spending, other than proposed cuts that aren't likely to materialize.
As far as Cops pay, that is a problem as well, and Mangano made it even worse. The median base salary for a cop in Nassau County is over $116,000, almost half the cops on the force made $150,000 or more last year. Mangano then decides to throw the PBA yet another bone and removed a compensation cap put in place by the previous administration. Removing the compensation cap has resulted in some retiring chiefs taking home more than $850,000 (thats not even including a yearly six figure pension).
As far as how cops in Nassau make in relation to others
As has been said the median base pay for a Nassau County Cop is over $116,000, including OT its about $150,000, as almost half the cops on the force took home $150,000
The median household income in Nassau is $92,450
Median Family Income is $106,412
Median Full time Income for Males $65,653
Median Full Time Income for Females $49,749
So its pretty obvious that cops make much more than the average resident of Nassau County, considering the average cop by themselves makes even more than the average household
I guess you can call it crybaby retaliation. Following a request made by Presiding Officer Peter Schmitt (who was my rep in the County Legislature until the 02 redistricting) county officials are planning at moving millions of county $$$ out of Wells Fargo which is where NIFA's Chairman works.

I am not going to go through police pay again. You and others can go to the other thread for that. As far as Mangano and Schmidt , they are the most unprofessional knuckleheads politicians I have witnessed in a long time. This video is enough proof of that
Instead of figuring out how to get NIFA out of the county by fixing the budget he is going to slander the board. Bravo! And I would like to know if he is related to Archie Bunker? He looks and speaks like him.

yes Gulotta sucked. but it was Suozzi that killed us
and no cops dont make 3 times
average salery :.........Nassau County police officers earn $44,360 annually after 12 months (34,000 Annual Starting Salary) & $85,282 annually after 6 years, and $105,000 after 8 years ON THE JOB................... median household income for entire nassau population..87k...certainly not 3 times

Perhaps not three times, but the median base salary for a Nassau County cop is more than $116,000, and with OT included almost half the cops on the force make $150,000.
The current problems in a nutshell. Started with massive handouts to the Unions and Police starting actually with Purcell, and taken to another extreme by Gullota, follow that up with refusing to ever increase county taxes and the result was junk bond status and massive deficits. Now Mangano is doing the exact same thing Gullota did, and is doing it during a time period when the sales tax revenue is down.

We started this discussion with you stating that you knew very few police that made in the hundreds of thousand and those that did make that salary were involved in DWI. Next you disagreed that the median salary for police and posted information that really had nothing to do with the question at hand.
Just some facts:
Nassau County, Suffolk NYC according to BLS Mean Annual Wage for 2009 is $50,190.
Nassau County Police according to Seethrough NY Median Pay (2010) $129,213.34 , Mean is approximately $125K.
So now we have over half the police force making over $130K not including no pay in to pension, full paid health benefits and uniform allowance ( always get laugh that taxpayers need to pay an alllowance when someones making $130K but small pickings).
Its not about bashing cops it's a discussion about bringing all civil service salaries in the county to a reasonable level. I happen to agree that Mangano should have left the energy tax in place as that would have been a step in the right direction but that should only be temporary. I have heard the argument "what's a few dollars more" from my school district, village, county and town not to mention a few car salesmen. Feel free to offer some correction to any of the facts I have stated.

The NCPD not only supported Gulotta they actively campaigned for him, I recall a huge poster inValley Stream indicating the PBA's support for him. Suozzi could have and should have done more rather than focusing on his campaign for governor but comparing him to Gullota, not even close. Did you forget Mitchel Field and Roosevelt Raceway?
Household income is different than median or average income per employee, see my last post on the comparison with police. I was incorrect in stating 3 times, NCPD is around 2.2X.
