Fact is Nassau cops are the highest paid in the county. Period
the top BASE salary for a POLICE OFFICER si 108..that is the contract

the top base median for ALL COPS...ie rookies, sergeants, captains, police officers, etc is 116k

It says $108,000 after 8 years, it does not state $108,000 as the highest period. Do you think more than half the force are captains, sergeants, etc?

Regardless, fact is Nassau cops are the highest paid in the nation.

But if you stay more than the required yrs you can go high high as 50%. Any cop would trad his 150G at 70% for 100 G at 90% wit the 3% COLA SJPD better base pay, better pension, better beni's BETTER JOB
San Diego pays 90% after 30 years, that is really fiscal insanity no wonder California is broke. You do realize that even 70% after 32 years is well above the norm not even including bumps for your pension the last few years.

Newsday, WSJ & a few other sites have stated the median base salary is a little over $116,000, overall median salary (including OT) to be just shy of $150,000, including cost for benefits the median is $202,000.

its a know fact that nassau is topped out at 8 years...nyc at 5 years

and no, I dont think that there are MORE captains, lt, sergeants than there are PO

but if you have 10 cops..earning in ranges from 35 to 150k..and many are at top pay,,dont you think the median would be a little hirer (((edit) higher)))

out of the 2600 cops HALF make LESS than 115k

If we were talking mean than yes, the median in that case would be the middle of the 5th and 6th officer.

why add the 'include cost of benies' in there

the median for all police (sergeants and captains too) is 115k,,including OT is 150k...a small cost for the lowest crime rate in the country

"Many hard-hit local governments have flirted with insolvency because of revenue shortfalls caused by the recession, but the financial problems of Nassau, on Long Island, owed more to a failure by county officials to face up to tough economic reality responsibly and quickly enough, according to the state board"
Maybe they'll raise taxes and honor the contracts they signed
