Household income is different than median or average income per employee, see my last post on the comparison with police. I was incorrect in stating 3 times, NCPD is around 2.2X.

Well you should move out of Oceanside, the Department of Labor indicates otherwise, keep in mind that they consider all wage earners. Household means total income per household or multiple wage earners, you need to look at individual wage earners. Data below from 2008.
[LEFT]"Workers in the Nassau-Suffolk Metropolitan Division had an average (mean) annualwage of $49,010 in May 2008, roughly 16 percent above the nationwide average of $42,270,
according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) of the U.S. Department of Labor."

All these BS stats from BS research from BS agencies from (I have nightmares about people making more than me all) Go-odnight long. I live in a middle class area and no one here is making the median to survive here.
so the median is 116...that means 50% of the PO's are making LESS than 116
fact po starting salary is in the 30's
fact po salary after 1 year is 44k
fact po salary after 6 years is 85k
fact po TOP salary (8 years) is 108k
fact the median household salary on long island (nassau) is 85k..meaning 50% of the population make that or less..and 50% make that or more
the medcial proffession is the largest profession on long island, a PA (physicians assistant, not even a doctor) makes over 85k...the median physican salary on long island 180k
long island also has one of the lowest crime rates in the entire country
do you realy want to complain about a cops salary????
Just like 9/11 you won't hear from Goodnights and Dman72s for a while until PO Califano's death is a few weeks past. Then they'll be back like nothing ever happened.
The WSJ had a piece on the outrageous compensation being doled out to Nassau cops. The average cop is costing Nassau taxpayers $202,000! The politicians have been in cahoots with the main police union, the PBA, for many years. The end result is that the union has the contract incredibly scewed. Get this: whenever a Nassau cop donates blood, he gets five vacation days!

The median base is $116,000, with OT it winds up being closer to $150,000 as Iamontnow points out with benefits it comes to $200,000. On top of that you have the compensation caps being removed, so you have some of the retiring chiefs making in excess of $800,000 in the year they retire (and thats in addition to a yearly six figure pension). The system is broken.
As far as your PA example, yes many PA's are very well paid as well, but how much do the taxpayers pay for PA's compared to what the taxpayers pay for Cops.
I have no problem with paying cops well, I have no problem with even having generous benefits and retirement plans, but there is a difference between paying well and paying to excess. When you have almost half the cops on the force taking home $150,000 of taxpayer $$$ a year, upwards of $200,000 including benefits, when you have some retiring chiefs walking away with in excess of $800,000 of taxpayer $$$ to retire, not even including a six figure pension also of taxpayer $$$, something is wrong.

Incredible.
