Well, that makes no sence.....you bring in more competition and you expect rates to go up?
Thats like saying......
McDonalds has not had competition for 15 years in this little town....now a BK and a Jack's opens up....so McDonalds raises it's prices?
Yes, but it is not the same............you would have the people from the"unhealthy" states rushing to buy their insurance in the "healthy" states.
So the insurance companies in the healthy states, who have set their premiums in accordance with their own demographic, would suddenly be inundated with an infux of unhealthy customers.
See what I mean? You would have people literally hopscotching from state to state chasing ever changing rates.........sounds like a cluster**** to me and would add a great deal to administrative costs.
I would love the federal government to mandate everyone buy my product/service.
You sound like an insurance salesman What's next, making it mandatory that everyone buy life insurance?
Disability Insurance? - which would be more appropriate
to have for that "just in case crippling back injury".
Car insurance policies have medical rider options for that "just in case car crash"
The biggest problem with health care today IS the
insurance companies. I see no reason why anyone would
trust, or confuse them with the delivery of health care.
They are in it for profit - plain and simple. Add in the
lawyers, and you have a mecca of abuse.
The federal government does not have the authority
to force any citizen to buy a product from a private
company, whether the product/service is regulated
by the commerce clause or not. Not to mention the IRS
involvement - added expense, size and powers
I for one, want nothing to do with the continuation of
federal subsidies with a mandate to private companies for profit, under the guise of calling it health care reform.
For the life of me and you I can't understand why anyone would be fighting for the expansion of private
health insurance company involvement in health care -
when clearly it should be the total opposite - IF
you want health care reform
What I really want is national health care......take the profit out of offering health insurance.
Health insurance should not be a for profit industry, IMO.
But, since we can't have that, I think people that can afford insurance should be forced to have it. They can choose which company they buy it from......not just from YOUR company.

National health care, or national health insurance?
I think it would also depend on how it was done. As it is now, rates do vary from state to state in part because of differing regulations on things like minimum coverage. As I understand it, policies issued in NJ (I think?) must cover all kinds of stuff that most people don't want, making them ridiculously expensive.
That sounds just like the pay TV packages we are offered.
That will result in severe doctor and other medical professions shortages.
I am not so sure about that. You will still have people who want to live in the US and have a secure, well paying job that cannot be easily outsourced.

Do you mean an H1B visa for doctors program? That might not work. There's a doctor shortage in Canada.
