This legislation would give the president the ability to turn off the Internet without any judicial review.

Obama must be in control of the Republicans. It's all part of his mad dash for total control of everything. I bet he controls how many potatos you get on your platter at Denny's. Fear his power, for it is great.

Guess he is a mad man that does not know much right?

For a crazy man he sure gets a lo of this stuff correct long before it happens.

Obama wants to control every part of our life, not just the internet.

2012 cannot come soon enough before he trys to take away our right to vote.

It's interesting how 0bama calls for Mubarak to restore the internet, while his country is in revolt, and maybe even in danger of collapse, and 0bama himself wants an internet kill switch. My question to 0bama is, when exactly would he deem circumstances were appropriate for flipping the kill switch, if we were not witnessing them in Egypt?

Your cite confirms that it's not the President seeking anything.

From the text of S3480: Mr. LIEBERMAN (for himself, Ms. COLLINS, and Mr. CARPER) introduced the following bill; which was read twice and referred to the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs...

Lieberman: Independent.
Collins: Republican.
Carper: Democrat.

Is this hard to follow or something?

The bill doesn't even do what the OP suggests.

From the posted link:

Quote:
A US Senate committee has approved a wide-ranging cybersecurity bill that some critics have suggested would give the US president the authority to shut down parts of the Internet during a cyberattack.

Senator Joe Lieberman and other bill sponsors have refuted the charges that the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act gives the president an Internet "kill switch." Instead, the bill puts limits on the powers the president already has to cause "the closing of any facility or stations for wire communication" in a time of war, as described in the Communications Act of 1934, they said in a breakdown of the bill published on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee website.
LOL, it is funny when people just squirt out talking points they think they heard on the radio and back it up with a hurriedly googled link they didn't even read.

Yes, he also controls the amount of ketchup one is permitted to lather on their potatoes. I am waiting for a Ketchup uprising. Surely the Denny's contingent will soon blame their Ketchup rationing on Obama

Like America will ever experience the same kill switch dynamics???!!!! I don't think so. And if our president ever proposed such a kill switch I am sure folks would waste no time bashing the country to pieces because they could not access facebook. Rest assured, the US will never experience such a thing. We would self destruct in no time and our leaders know that.
