"This should come as no surprise. Obama has behaved consistently all along, from his refusal to back the protesters in Iran, who were demonstrating against an Islamic Republic, to his backing of these protesters in Egypt, to whom he has just given a green light to establish a government that, given numerous historical precedents, will likely be the precursor to an Islamic Republic."

I don't think he has much of a choice but he (we) should be working in the background to undermine them as much as possible.
so, what should we have done? sent in troops to protect a dictator, just because he would support us every now and then? if we had acted in this fashion, we would have been blasted by the international media for acting on our own benefit, rather than that of egypt. it was a catch-22, and i think we made the right choice.

He's walking a tightrope here -- he has to support the overthrow of the dictator but in doing so it opens the door to the unknown. Muslim Brotherhood could take over. I don't think the US can/should take over control of Egypt and force them to elect a democratic government, I almost wish we could but that would be wrong. It's their country.
The level of discourse here is weaker than my 10th grade civics class and those kids can barely spell 'lol'.
I love how incredibly complicated foreign policy issues (and every other subject for that matter) always come down to partisan bickering on this board in the end.
