Dissing someone's mother is really hitting below the belt, IMO.

What Mr. O did five or ten or twenty years ago does not interest me. What interests me is what he does TODAY. I am not the same person I was in the past, and most of you are not either.

For what it is worth, I think it was a racist sentiment, but who can really say who a person should choose for their soul mate. My intuition suggests that race was an excuse for a deeper incapatibility.

I was in love with a Swedish woman once. Stellar person. But she was from a wealthy European family, me from a working class American one. It was doomed, and I knew it. I broke it off first, but she would have eventually. But I loved her nonetheless, although I knew we were not right at some level. I still have not figured out what it was, because she was truly wonderful, but not the right one for me. This story reads the same way. I think his judgment reads of racism, but perhaps it was just a young man's judgment call in a confusing time. Such is the ambivalence of youth. Now he has Michelle and two lovely daughters, all of whom he seems to love earnestly. What is the issue here?
Have you actually read the passage in the book about the relationship? He did not break up with her because she was white. What doomed the relationship, as you wrote in your second paragraph, was being from two different cultural groups.

Here is part of the e-mail (http://mediamatters.org/press/releases/201102010029 - broken link), which contain quotes from Obama:

Once again, the lamestrem media has carefully buried this story at the bottom of the pile. By simply reading Obama's own words, we see he put himself around racists and socialists at a very young age. He was influenced by them and surely that influence must be with him today.

Obama sounds racist. I really do not see why anyone has a problem with inter-racial relationships. It should not matter one bit, and I am suprised that a presumed "intellectual", like Obama, would be focused on race as a dividing issue. Perhaps this is a character flaw of his, as his presidency has certainly been divisive.

It's been very divisive for people who are typically divisive types of people.

Most people harbor some sort of racism or prejudice. If you are reading this, think about it. What ethnicities, races or nationalities do you have some inner hatred or mistrust of? Or, perhaps through your life you have experienced mistrust, hatred, etc at the hand of a certain type of people, over and over again.

If we are going to take time to examine Obama's supposed words, I think we should do a retrospect of former presidents and their "race relations" and thoughts. Heck, I am sure Bush Jr had at least one black friend. Well, actually, maybe not....

Have you read the actually passages from the book? Or are you depending on the contrived version related in the email?

Obama is not against interracial relationships.

How dumb can we all be about this President, his past associations, should of told us something, and the Ignorant People he surrounded himself with. A leopard's spots don't change, they can hide who they are from the outside, but inside, forget about it!!!!!!!!!

It's better she be a welfare queen than a teenage who*e who got knocked up while her mom was preaching about celibacy...
