With a government that is not pro-western then the Suez Canal comes into play. If the government is anti- western then we will have to put boots on the ground. With the Muburak growing older and lining his son up to be President the US knows that the Egyptian people would not go for that, so by simply getting the military to siliently backing a political uprising then the military can take over with the peoples blessing. Now how long before an election that is not controled by the military is allowed is anyone's guess. I have spent some time in Egypt, and the average person is the metality of my father did it this way and his father did it this way and I am not going to change. Also most of the men have married his mothers or fathers brothers daughter, it has been this way since the phaorhs. So take it for what it's worth, not all that is, can really be happening.
The jubilation in the streets of Cairo over Mubarak's departure masks the full extent of the historic shift now underway in Egypt, the Arab world's most populous nation. Late Thursday night, Mubarak tried to transfer authority to his hand-picked vice president, Omar Suleiman, but the announcement triggered widespread fury and seemed virtually certain to lead to violence. Instead, Egypt's Supreme Military Council stepped in on Friday to push out both Mubarak and Suleiman in what amounted to a bloodless—and immensely popular—military coup.

I don't think the US will be putting any "boots on the ground" in Egypt or any other country unless of course you want to start a draft.
You have to feel good for the Egyptians finally getting rid of Mubarack with very little violence. Hopefully this will work out for the best, in the mean time just sit and watch.
Even if they aren't pro-western, they have clearly shown they are not pro-terrorist.
