Of course all other federal taxes should be abolished to do this. No more social security, medicare, gas tax, etc.

Just one tax on all income over 30K a year, for each and every citizen. If you make more, you pay more.

Of course the tax rate would probably be above 35%.
I think the similarity of the terms "fat tax" and "flat tax" may be causing some confusion. Therefore I suggest we refer to this new tax as a "flab tax"...

There is really no ailment we can't cure through suffocating taxation and overreaching federal agencies.
Look how prohibition put a stop to alcoholism

It would especially make sense if we had tax-paid health care. Use the Fat Tax to pay for the health care.
This would work if you have not know the difference between right and wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for your personal actions, sadly to many people are conditioned to believe the government and with that come MORE TAX'S

The only one on the list that is a cost to America is the illegal immigrant

One of the above that is a big cost to America e.g. unwed
parent (s) with children who do not work and are on welfare and medicaid.

We could end the war on drugs and that would keep a
lot of folks out of prisons, reducing the costs there.

I smoke and am taxed. I don't like it - but that is the way it is. The money goes for the Children Health Insurance Programs. Why not have a small tax on food that goes into a general health care fund. With all examples above - you can't get juice out of a dead turnip,
but if you tax the turnip they put into their mouth - at
least we will get something from them

Except for genetic disease, most common day diseases
can be contributed to what you eat or put into your
mouth. I say - why not add'l tax on all food. And unlike smoking, whereas if one got tired of being taxed, they quit smoking -
everyone has got to eat

What foods are we talking about here? Does cheese get taxed? Olive oil? Nuts? 90/10 ground beef? steak? Peanut butter?

None of those foods are unhealthy, yet contain a significant amount of fat.

Young? No. Obtuse? Again, no. I can quite clearly see many "poor" people in my metropolitan area who are morbidly obese. That doesn't happen without a significant amount of overeating. Clearly those "poor" people are choosing to buy and consume mass quantities of poor-quality food instead of buying and consuming lower quantities of more costly nutritious food. My question is if they're so "poor," where are they getting the money to physically abuse themselves like that? Is the destruction of their health subsidized by our government and therefore paid for by the taxpayers?

Just sat fat, for the Danes:

"Denmark has imposed a fat tax in attempt to limit the population's intake of fatty foods, becoming the first country to take such a measure.

The new tax will be levied on all products that include saturated fats - from butter and milk to pizzas, oils, meats and pre-cooked foods.

The measure, designed by the outgoing government and announced on Saturday, will add 16 kroner [$2.87] per kg of saturated fats in a product.

Consumers over the past week hoarded butter, meat and milk to avoid the immediate price increase."

Look out, we're next!

..."As far as we have been able to determine, Denmark is the first country in the world to introduce a fat tax, but we know that other countries are following us closely and have their own plans," she said.

Tax Fat people?

Yay!

I'm all for it! Think about all the revenue we could get from those fat, lazy guys who lay on the couch and watch sports all day on Sundays and those fat women who go to Shoney's after church, and all those fat people stuffing their faces at the buffet at Pizza Inn, and .... OMG ... Fat people are everywhere. We are a nation of fat people!

We have no self control, we consume and consume and consume!

TAX FAT PEOPLE!

TAX CHURCHES!

(I know ... Redundant)

TAX them!
