At a security conference in Munich, he argued the UK needed a stronger national identity to prevent people turning to all kinds of extremism.

He also signaled a tougher stance on groups promoting Islamist extremism.

The speech angered some Muslim groups, while others queried its timing amid an English Defense League rally in the UK.

Is this a case of too little too late???

Multiculturalism is a failed liberal experiment that basically says to immigrants (the unintended consequence), "Hey you can come live here, but just be yourselves. It's ok to be different!" Lot of people would take that to mean that the immigrant is not welcome to be British, in this case

Multiculturalism seems to work fine in my city, and I'm sure in places like NYC.
Folks are getting along pretty decently last time I checked.

Besides the criticism itself isn't the "multiculturalism" -- it's religious extremism.

Where I live there is some notable multiculturalism and it's cool to see people of all colors and backgrounds interacting in harmony.

It comes down to economics. The immigrants are draining funds for social services and the governments simply can't afford it any more.

Exactly and you will find places where people of different cultures and backgrounds get along better than places where there is just one culture or race.

Cameron is talking manure, just to appease the mail reading section of the tory support base. No one under 35 thinks otherwise because we all mix with each other. Hell my last two girlfriends were philipina and malaysian.

The U.S. and Canada have done a much better job of incorporating newcomers than Western Europe, but still, we can learn a few things from them about what not to do.
