If private businesses want to limit themselves to their own ethnic groups, fine - although widespread discrimination against English speakers takes place in those businesses. Many of these immigrant businesses get big loans from the government and then refuse to consider hiring any Americans but use the language excuse to bring in extended family and the whole village from back home.

Discrimination is discrimination - and if these businesses aren't hiring Americans of all backgrounds, they should be prosecuted the same as American businesses are.

We shouldn't even have to ask this question. Government should not tell business owners what they have to print and what language they must use.

Let them print in Russian if they think it's good for their business. The market will tell them what language is appropriate.

I agree that the lack of the complete usage of English by a private business is discrimination against Americans who were born & raised in the USA. It is understandable that private businesses want to advertise in the language of a particular ethnic group but there should also be an English translation.

Absolutely not. Multilingual and multicultural is not the wave of the future, it is NOW! Business do business all over the world.

Do you recall that the White House web site became bilingual while W was in office? You can go to http://www.whitehouse.gov/espanol and read it in Spanish, although English is the default.

In a country where the predominant language is English, signage should be in English. I'm curious to know how often you run across Russian or Spanish signage in Germany, or Swedish signage in Italy, or Chinese signage in Mexico, etc., etc. Something tells me this is mostly an American phenomenon.
German signage all over the place here...what's the big deal?

Private businesses should put up whatever signage they want. But public signs, public buildings, etc...ENGLISH. Just because there's no "official" language doesn't mean that we don't have an overwhelmingly dominant language. We're an English speaking country and it shouldn't be easy to get around without learning it.

You realize that this nation was built on the backs of people who started small businesses and then brought their families over? Perhaps because they were European there's more tolerance for this practice, but why do you all want government to dictate who a business hires or not? Why are there so many Socialists like yourselves in this country?!?

I, personally, have no problem going into an Asian restaurant and finding it to be a family run operation. Is Ford now a problem for you because they're a family business? What about Johnson and Johnson?

Silly argument, imao. Supply and demand will dictate what language(s) a particular business can / needs to use in order to thrive.

Make up your mind if you are going to address private business or state/federal government documents in your arguement. Your thread title said private business, not state government documents.

If you meant state government documents then your thread title was intentionally misleading and a TOS violation.

We need to make it clear, English is our language and to survive in America you will need to learn to read and write English.
If you do not know Spanish or French, why would you read all the different languages?

Also, how much time does it take to press 1?
