159 posts and it is still, taste great less filling. Only now we can add, neener neener. So after all this typing, have we reached a conclusion yet, or at least a consensus as to which political party would Hitler join. Good lord, its hard to type that with a straight face.

Another example of ignorance of the Nazis.

March 13th 1932, National Socialist Hitler, lost the election to the more Conservative Republican, Hindenburg.

Hindenburg 49.6 percent
Hitler 30.1 percent
Thaelmann 13.2 percent
Duesterberg 6.8 percent

Hindenberg had not received a majority of the vote, a runoff election had to be held among the top three vote-getters. On April 19, 1932, the runoff results were:
Hindenburg 53.0 percent
Hitler 36.8 percent
Thaelmann 10.2 percent

Deadlocks in the Reichstag soon brought a new election, this one in November 6, 1932. In that election, the National Socialist(Nazis) lost two million votes and 34 seats. Thus, even though the National Socialist Party was still the largest political party, it had clearly lost ground among the voters.

Hitler was appointed chancellor of Germany, on January 30, 1933, by President Hindenburg. Although the National Socialists never captured more than 37 percent of the national vote, and even though they still held a minority of cabinet posts and fewer than 50 percent of the seats in the Reichstag, Hitler and the Nazis set out to to consolidate their power. With Hitler as chancellor, would be an easy task.

Why would Hitler and his associates turn a blind eye to an impending terrorist attack on their national congressional building or actually assist with such a horrific deed? Because they knew what government officials have known throughout history — that during extreme national emergencies, people are most scared and thus much more willing to surrender their liberties in return for “security.” And that’s exactly what happened during the Reichstag terrorist crisis.

There was no proof the Communists from Russia were involved.

An exercise in futility?

I suppose what gets me is that the use of the name "Hitler" and "Nazi's" has been used to describe things as mundane as disagreeing on health care, or some aspect of the budget. I mean seriously we use these terms to describe people we merely disagree with anymore, what is next, deny your kid M&M's at the check out line at Walmart and people start mumbling... damn Nazi under their breath.

We have so diluted these names that truly awful people, or people who commit horrific atrocities can't be called Nazi's or Hitler because that was used to describe Barney Frank for his view on ___<insert piece of legislation>___ So what is left to describe the worst in humans? Not to mention how it may reflect upon those actual victims of them, as we reduced them down to parents who deny their children candy.

Just for clarification the reference to the 'Reichstag terrorist crisis' was the burning of the Reichstag. That was blamed on the opposing party so that the Nazis could have complete control.

Conservatives have a liking for big government as well as Liberals as long as it is used to promote conservative ideals (of which small government takes least priority). It is demonstrated anywhere at anytime in history over and over and over again.

The reason I hang in here is I lived in Germany (non-US military) for over 18 years. I can write and speak German, also read German newspapers and books, as well as understand German radio, TV, and the various film clips of the Third Reich. It's just amazing how little people know about the Third Reich.

Exactly! The conservatives want the government to function according to conservative likes and dislikes. Nothing small about that.
