A bill that ties drug testing to unemployment benefits is scheduled to go before an Indiana House committee Tuesday.

The legislation would require anyone trying to claim unemployments benefits to be tested for drugs first.

Those benefits would be denied if the person tests positive or refuses to be tested.

Lawmakers with the Labor Committee will hold a hearing on the bill Tuesday morning.

Thoughts ?

If the government is going to help you, I think it's fair to require something simple like this. Drugs are a huge waste of money that taxpayers shouldn't pay for.

Who's going to foot the bill?

It would be unconstitutional.

How about our elected leaders get drug tested on a regular basis?

So let me get this straight...those who previously paid into the system and also paid taxes will be tested for drugs and those who Continue to pay into the system and pay taxes will have to foot the bill for the drug tests and any other social services these people may need to apply for to make ends meet. hmmmmmm

I wonder how many Indianian's will lose their benefits ?

I honestly think the number will be low as most unemployed are looking for work and keeping away from drugs...

Should the same apply to welfare recipients or are we opening up a new can of worms ?

Since some of the people will fail the drug test and not receive benefits, it should be pretty cost effective.

If testing is going to happen, it should first start with welfare people.
