newly elected Senator Rand Paul is taking a bold and proactive step in protecting our national security and lowering our deficit. By introducing $500 billion in spending cuts today – to be enacted over one year – Sen. Paul is starting an important conversation with his Senate colleagues about how to fix our nation’s current economic situation.

the federal government spent $1.5 billion and states spent $1.4 billion on grants for students who didn't start their sophomore years, according to "Finishing the First Lap: The Cost of First-Year Student Attrition in America's Four-Year Colleges and Universities."

The dollar figures, based on government data and gathered by the nonprofit American Institutes for Research, are meant to put an economic exclamation point on the argument that college completion rates need improvement.

But the findings also could give ammunition to critics who say too many students are attending four-year schools — and that pushing them to finish wastes even more taxpayer money.

The Obama administration, private foundations and others are driving a shift from focusing mostly on making college more accessible to getting more students through with a diploma or certificate.

Every time a politician comes up with a bill to cut spending (waste), the other side whines about it being a drop in the bucket.

Many drips equal a bucketful, in my world.

Just a small leak can sink a ship.

Lets see, hmmm wasteful spending... How about

~ $10.5 Billion on illegal aliens

~ A $217,000 study on why political candidates are vague.

~ 1 Billion spent on printing costs

~ $90,000 to fund promotion of the Vidalia onion

~ $48 million for a streetcar system in Atlanta that runs the same route as the city’s subway system.

~ $Ten departments, three independent agencies, one federal commission, one presidential council, and one quasi-official agency administer 131 juvenile programs at a cost of $4 billion per year.

~
70 programs across 57 different departments and agencies receive over $16 billion a year to fight illegal drug use.

~
The TVA currently receives $70 million per year in taxpayer support for non-power activities.

~
The National Park Service spent nearly $600,000 per home to construct rental housing for employees in Yosemite National Park.

~ Farm subsidies

~ The National Endowment for the Arts

~ Amtrak

~ The Post Office

and the list could go on and on... Democrat or Republican, doesn't make a difference on who to blame.

Obviously you missed the point of the thread. Perhaps I was expecting too much from CD posters to actually post links to legislation where this Congress is actually proposing making cuts to areas of wasteful spending.
