If the new technology is a worthwhile product then why does it need a significantly large subsidy of $7,500/vehicle?

If it has to be subsidized, it is not worth keeping.

Yep. Just like the silly green lightbulbs that we will all be forced to buy come 2014 and will subsidize 2/3 of the cost of with higher utility rates. The redistribution of the wealth comes in all shapes and sizes but come it does. Disgusting. Stephen Cox | Liberty Unbound (Sorry. Don't mean to go way off specific topic; but its a pet peeve of mine and it came to mind with the car subsidizing. Its all garbage.)

Rebate or no rebate, the public has decided that they don't want electric cars; check the microscopic 2012 sales numbers for the Volt or Leaf as opposed to the Civic or Corolla, or the Elantra or Focus.

Added to this is the loss of revenue for states because lower gas sales equals less taxes collected to maintain roads. Electric cars needs to thrive or die on their own merits.

The public will probably have some help in deciding. Drive the cost of gas up. It's that simple.

The taxpayers have been paying to subsidize rich people's little electric toys for about a decade now. Time to stop that waste of money and let the industry stand on it's own. Much like methanol and "green power" need to do.

I guess that green lobby is getting their payback. Talk about a scam on the taxpayers.
