I'd like to see actual statistics on toy guns used by juveniles vs adults that were involved in police incidents before I say this bill is a knee-jerk reaction by another politician pandering to some group they owe a favor to.

Next....extending your index finger to the horizontal position and your thumb to the vertical, then pointing it at someone and saying BANG will be punishable by $10,000 fine and /or 10 years in the slammer! Keep those fine laws coming you Morons.

Planned Parenthood giving abortions to 12 year olds (as long as they can pay) is okay, but don't you dare sell a toy gun to them!

This bill has just merely been introduced. I went to the Hawaii legislative webpage, and there as been no debate of this bill, no committee summary, and no testimony whatsoever (be it from the legislature of the public).

So all we have is "toy gun" - yet what constitutes a "toy gun" has not been defined, debated, discussed, etc, etc, etc.

To you "toy gun", for some reason, don't included BB guns or pellet guns or Airsoft guns, but instead comprises (I assume), things like supersoakers or squirt guns.
To me "toy guns" means precisely things like BB guns, pellet guns, and Airsoft guns, but doesn't include supersoakers and squirt guns.

There really is no point in debating what a "toy gun" is relative to this piece of legislation since it has yet to be clearly discussed, debated, or defined.

Why has this become such a crusade to you?

I merely wanted to point out the insanity.

Oh good lord. My "crusade" was against the title of the thread because of the fact that it is a bold-faced lie. I don't like liars (especially when the lie is purposefully designed to attack liberals like me by ridiculously misrepresenting our positions).

What is insane about handing parents control over what their kids are or are not allowed to own?

Personally, I would go for a slightly lower age at which a child could purchase such a toy for himself/herself, maybe 15 or so.

But as there is no "ban" being considered, and children will still be allowed to play with their toy weapons to their hearts content (and with their parents approval), maybe you could elucidate as to why you feel these bills are so intolerable.

That is not handing parents control over anything.

Would you seriously be upset if, let's say your kid goes on a field trip somewhere and comes home with a toy gun?

"Toy weapon" is a little extreme, don't you think?

Yes, I would. If the parent of one of my 12 year old son's friends (or if the friend himself) gave my son a BB or pellet gun for his birthday without first discussing it with me, damn right I'd be upset. Likewise, if Walmart sold my 12 year old son a BB or Airsoft gun I'd be upset with Walmart.
