Regardless of what's happening out there in the real world on our freeways and how you personally feel about drivers doing the speed limit in the left lane, it appears to me this proposed ordinance would ticket lawful drivers in order to accommodate those who are breaking the law.

A state senator is sponsoring legislation that would ticket drivers for holding up traffic in the left lane.
Marion Player drives for a living and said there's nothing worse than slow drivers in the left lane.
"They need to move over to the slow lane and give the faster traffic a chance to get by," Player said
Tim Davis says it would be ridiculous to ticket drivers who are doing the speed limit just because they're in the left lane.

...Critics said the bill is encouraging drivers to speed, but Senator Mike Bennett who is sponsoring the proposed legislation disagrees.
"It will not encourage speeders. It will tell people there are speeders out there- - get out of their way," Bennett said.

Signs that say "Slower Traffic Keep Right" mean slower than the posted speed LIMIT. You're not obstructing traffic if you're obeying the law in the left lane.

Doesn't make any sense. So a cop sees you doing the speed limit in the left lane. The only way he can prove you're holding up traffic is if he sees someone exceeding the speed limit coming up behind you and he's going to give YOU the ticket for doing the limit?

I agree with your last sentence and nobody in the left lane doing the speed limit should ever get a ticket, but I always try to stay to the right because most accidents happen in the left lane, according to statistics.

Traffic is getting so heavy in so many places that all lanes are full. Wonder who gets a ticket then. Whoever it is proposing this law is an idiot. But some people vote for idiots.

Sometimes someone in front of you is going slow and you start to go around them and they speed up. Are you supposed to have to break the speed limit to get around them. That is putting you somewhere between a rock and a hard place.

You also see roads where the right lane is crowded and cars are bumper to bumper and the left lane is about empty. Wouldn't it make more sense to let some of those cars on the right get into the left lane and free up the right lane a little? We are getting so into rules that allowing a logical thinking person move to more safety is a thing of the past. Big brother needs to back off.

I am glad I live in a state where a person is allowed to pass on the right. Just share the road and give tickets for unsafe movements such as riding peoples bumpers. That is the one who needs the ticket. Some people just do this out of habit or pure meaness.

Folks are going to speed, I don't care what you do. So, recognizing that fact of life also should make us recognize that if folks don't yield to overtaking vehicles those folks are going to find alternate routes around you which will lead to excessive lane changing, aggression, and incidents of road rage, all of which pose bigger problems than a speeder in the left lane.

They shouldn't get a ticket, but they SHOULD know the left lane is for passing. It wouldn't hurt going a couple miles over the speed limit just to pass the car in the right lane and getting right back over if able, there are way to many people who thinks cruising in the left lane is acceptable. It's annoying and and it can cause road rage.

Some people who hog the left lane and impede traffic flow seem to be on a power trip. Just move over. It's not your business if the other driver wants to take a chance at exceeding the speed limit.

People going at a speed different than the prevailing speed of traffic are a threat, rather they are going faster or slower than the posted limit. What part of "keep right except to pass" is so hard to understand? It's the law in most places, and the rule of the road and common courtesy in all. Are "left lane hogs" just so arrogant that they feel the need to impeed other drivers on the road? Or just oblivious?

Unfortunately we do have some of the worst drivers in the world on our highways, so plenty of people will try to justify it.

It would mean you could never be in the left lane lawfully.
