What a fabulous idea.

Just one thing, how do you pay for this?
Yep. I've been trying to figure that out on a personal level...

But,... if you need a job Google "India is hiring... "

Not in my book.
I know folks with 4 year degrees who've been layed off and back in CC to acquire some new "lesser" skills than what they had with their 4 year degrees. An engineer retraining for landscaping ??

I wouldn't consider someone attending a 2 year college as someone going for a quicky degree. Everyone can not afford to attend a 4 year college. So again my question is a person who can not afford to attend a 4 year college and currently work for minimum wage, should they just wait until some miracle come their way before attending a 4 year college? If the answer is yes, why all the complaints about Social Programs and the 50% of American's who do not pay taxes?

Many jobs today ARE looking for someone with a minimum of their Associates degree or some type of certification. By your reasoning someone working at McDonalds should not considering moving onto a better paying job because Michelle had to nerve to recommend attending community college.
Not in my neck of the woods..$110/credit hour + fees + books.
About $600 give or take for a single class
Tuition skyrocketed in the past 2-3 years.
It did used to be $60/credit and very affordable, especially for Continuing Ed
classes. Not anymore; you have folks taking out loans just to get 2 year degrees now.

There are kids in CC who are there because they can't find jobs, even min wage. There are adults in CC who are trying to train because they can't find jobs. There are adults in CC who are working and retraining (like me) who see the writing on the wall and want to be prepared for when they have no job.

And yes..there are those who do plan to go for a 4 year degree with the 2 years at a CC. But it's certainly not all.

dated 2009 but the trend has not changed..more older professionals are attending CC's:
http://www.communitycollegereview.com/articles/75
"Amidst a shifting economy, job layoffs, unemployment, and other professional catalysts, community colleges are experiencing a rise in attendance from experienced students who have already engaged in work out in the “real world.”

$110 for a community college? Are you sure that is not a 2 year State College where credits can transfer to a 4 year Community? I've never seen anything remotely that close to cost for a community college anywhere in the U.S.

I agree with Mrs Obama. Think of the lonely bowling pin setter who can't find work, but never tries to learn a new skill. Your skills have to change with the times. Community college is a good way to learn new marketable skills.

We're on the same page as far as who's going back to CC and why, I guess I'm just confused on the issue with Michelle's statement.

For those that are claiming that she's suggesting to hop from job to job, that is not what she's saying. Michelle is suggesting the trend that has occured with job security of the last couple of years. You have to be prepared to evolve with the job market. Within the last 5 years, I've taken and received 5 different certifications and now in the process of obtaining my Masters in Business.

The CC here costs almost that much. A couple of years ago it was $94 per credit hour.
